Re: Amazon Debuts 13 pilots

Man in the High Castle was pretty good. It's been a long time since I've read the book so I can't say how faithful it is.

The Man in the High Castle seems very interesting to me, I also want to check out the Point of Honor (Mostly because I like that period in history in relation to media)

I expect you've seen movies based on his stuff, though.

Re: Amazon Pilot Season

Watched Down Dog. Can I have my 32 minutes back? I almost turned it off and should of. Think I had 2 mild chuckles.
I wasn't familiar with any of the cast, but the lead was good. I think he'd be Bette with different material.

I watched The Man In the High Castle and I liked it. I think that will be picked up. Some critics are raving about it. I also watched Mad Dogs and enjoyed it. I might watch Point of Honor later tonight.

Re: Amazon Pilot Season

I know why US networks remake British shows (money, duh). But I don't know why Amazon chose to remake Mad Dogs in particular. I liked the original series, but mostly for the cast (John Simm, Philip Glenister). The first season was great... the others? Not so much. It's one of those British shows where someone had a really good idea for a single season, and the show turned into a hit, so the network ordered more... but the writer had already used his or her best ideas. It's good, but hardly worth of a remake.

In any case, it's an extremely limited series (4 seasons, 14 episodes total). Like Prison Break, the series would work best within a limited timeline... which may be what Amazon is thinking: a solid, 10 episode miniseries as opposed a network series that should have been a miniseries that gets stretched out to 4 seasons.

Having said all that, I've watched half of the pilot, and like it OK so far.

Re: Amazon Pilot Season

Damn, just finished Man in the High Castle. One of the best pilots I've seen in ages. I was totally engrossed the entire time. Amazing how they set up a fully realized world like that. Nice acting by the leads, and some terrific ground work for future stories.

Episode finished and I wanted to watch the next!

Re: Amazon Pilot Season

Watched Man in the High Castle and was impressed. Looked great, pretty good acting and lots of layers of stuff going on. The end was a surprise, but I think there's more to that. Normally I hate these historical shows like this, but this one intrigued the hell out of me because of the alt-history of it. I will be in for more of that one for sure. Just sucks we have to wait like a year for more of this.

Re: Amazon Pilot Season

Just watched Point of Honor and thought it was pretty good. I know we're not exactly starved for Civil War content, but I'd probably watch more. On the other hand, it'd have to fight for time among my TV backlog, and I'm not convinced it's THAT special.

Re: Amazon Pilot Season

I think Man in the High Castle has the most potential, I think the execution could have been a little better, but overall it's pretty solid. It's definitely more interesting to me than some of the more recent serialized dramas like Revolution.

Re: Amazon Pilot Season

Out of the pilots so far, I've only seen Cocked. I thought it was interesting, and I wouldn't mind seeing a whole season. I like the cast for the most part, but the editing was very sloppy. Some scenes feel like they just "end" without a transition.

I'll be checking out The Man in High Castle next.

Re: Amazon Pilot Season

I hope Man in High Castle goes forward, it reminds me of shows like Revolution but the premise is much more interesting.

I just watched a pilot for this on Amazon for free (in the UK).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Man...es)#Background

They've chopped the source material up somewhat, and from memory, added an entirely new plot strand, but I liked the production values and would watch the series.

I saw a trailer and assumed that this was a US re-make of the SKY show (of several short seasons) starring British actors - including John Sim.

Just checked wiki and its a yes to it being an adaptation/remake.

Re: Amazon Pilot Season

I figured this whole idea was going to be pretty hinkey so I'm sticking with my original plan of only watching the shows if and when they have a full season in the can.

Re: Amazon Pilot Season

Man in the High Castle is go for series:

http://www.engadget.com/2015/02/18/a...eason-results/

Philip K. Dick's imagination has been juicing TV series and movies since the early '60s, most famously inspiring Blade Runner, Total Recall and Minority Report. It should come as little surprise, therefore, to see that Amazon's pilot for Dick's The Man in the High Castle was the company's most watched pilot ever. As a consequence, the company will now commission a full series for its Netflix-esque Prime Instant Video. Of course, we just have to hope that the show is a little better than the last time someone adapted the author's work for TV -- 1999's deeply forgettable Total Recall 2070.

It may be the most notable entry on the list, but it's not just ...High Castle that Amazon executives have waved a green-tinted torch towards. Other successful shows include an adaptation of British drama Mad Dogs and documentary strand The New Yorker Presents. In the children's department, the company gave its blessing for full series of Just Add Magic as well as The Stinky & Dirty Show. Like the second series of Transparent, you can expect these new shows to start popping up towards the tail end of the year. So set your binge-watching schedule accordingly, folks.
