 Jesus that's like 2000 hours of programming you're behind on depending on how many seasons you're backed up. Good luck with that.

The Flash was a huge surprise in how good it was out of the gate. A lot of these genre shows stumble and take their time finding their true identity. The Flash has been nothing but exciting television since its pilot, a refreshing superhero take after grim and grimmer tales of comic book heroes.

Penny Dreadful should have earned more buzz, it is basically The League of Extraordinary Monsters from the 19th Century. Easily the most sophisticated dialogue I heard on television in 2014. A very stylish horror series that is surprisingly highbrow.

The second season of Arrow has been its high point so far, led by the epic conflict between Deathstroke and the Green Arrow.

While I didn't think this was the best season of Game of Thrones, the bar is so high for the HBO series that an average season is still one of the four or five best shows on the air.

A nasty horror show about witches set in puritanical Salem? Salem came out of nowhere on WGN to deliver the goods, including a great turn by female lead Janet Montgomery. They definitely pushed the envelope with edgy content, these are not your father's Puritans.

Haven continues to deliver, I wish the show could remain on the air indefinitely. We finally got more concrete answers to the mystery of Audrey Parker.

You're The Worst was the consistently funniest, most original comedy I saw this year.

The Blacklist had very sharp writing in its first season and James Spader. I worried the show would fall apart once they started answering its central mysteries, which has proven true so far in season two. But the first season is a thrill ride from beginning to end.

If you have VUDU, the first season is on sale at the moment for $14.99. WGN occasionally plays a repeat of Salem.
