What Is The Last TV Film You Watched?

Okay, so I thought that maybe this could become a sticky thread, like the one in the Movie Talk section that asks what is the last film you watched.

I do not feel that mentioning I watched The Christmas Shepherd (Hallmark Original) belongs under the Movie Talk last film thread, because my criteria for a film mention under that thread is that it had to have been released in theaters or was first released on dvd before viewing the movie on cable or on network TV.

I feel that this thread could be the place to mention if you watched an UP, Hallmark, Lifetime, or say an HBO original film. To drive home the point of this thread, if the last film you watched was The Lego Movie, it belongs in the OG last film you watched thread (it hit cable, but was in theaters and on dvd/blu before network/cable TV). If the last film you watched was North Pole (another recent Hallmark original), it belongs in this thread. To pick another movie that aired on TV/cable first, HBO's Behind The Candelabra would belong in this thread.

I pretty much watch all the Hallmark Originals (enjoying their Countdown To Christmas films as I type this out), so I will post fairly often in this thread, and I hope others will feel comfortable posting in this thread (think of it as a safe space, no judgement here, you can declare Citizen Kane to be your favorite film, and still gush about how enjoyable it was to watch the latest Countdown To Christmass Hallmark film).

I freely admit that some of the Hallmark films are really really bad, cheesy, or super slow with rushed endings, but like my mention of The Christmas Shepherd, some are a genuine pleasure to watch (no matter how fakish/syrupy/dumb the film actually is).

I also admit that I have a soft spot for most Hallmark/UP/Lifetime films that star Lacey Chabert, or Haylie Duff. Finally, here is a Hallmark film that did not star LC or HD that is another guilty pleasure, Snow Bride (Hallmark 2013), which starred Katrina Law. Perhaps it is a guilty pleasure because I could stare at her for hours even if all she was doing was reading the phone book.

Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B on Lifetime:
Thought it was just an alright biopic. I think it would have been more compelling as a major theatrical release.

Big Driver also on Lifetime:
Based on a Stephen King book. Maria Bello played a writer who was viciously raped after her car breaks down and was left for dead. She then plots revenge against the guy. It was decent, but lacked some edge since it was watered down for a TV audience.

There are TWO Heather Graham Lifetime incest movies? Lifetime makes incest movies? I meant to set my DVR, there was a miniseries version of Treasure Island on Sci-Fi of all places which was apparently quite good.

Re: What Is The Last TV Film You Watched?

Heather Graham plays a reduced role in the second movie. I thought Petals In The Wind was better than Lifetime's Flowers In The Attic.

I imagine everyone will see this weekend's Grumpy Cat movie. Lifetime is expecting huge numbers for it.

Re: What Is The Last TV Film You Watched?

I just watched the TBS made for TV "National Lampoon's Thanksgiving Reunion" with Judge Reinhold and Bryan Cranston. Man, that was painful.

Haven't seen the second one, but Flowers in the Attic was OK. Got it thru Redbox and never realized it was a Lifetime movie till later.

Do they still make TV movies? Holy shit, decades ago there were actually some exceptional ones made.

12 Dog Days Till Christmas (UP Network)

Norm De Plume, as you are discovering with this thread, the basic cable channels still make original films, however, most of them are, ummm...not great.

Folks, thanks for keeping this thread alive, and I am watching a Hallmark Christmas original as I type this out, so there is more to come.

Remember, this is a safe space, so even if you have a collection of quality films feel free to contribute if trashy Lifetime films are your kryptonite.

The Saved By The Bell and Flowers In The Attic films were already mentioned, which practically belong next to the definition of trashy in the dictionary.

As everyone is now well aware, my kryptonite is usually really hokey Hallmark films that would make most folks groan in pain if they were forced to watch them. The movie I am currently watching stars Candace Cameron Bure, who is a regular go to TV star for Hallmark/UP network originals.

The Aaliyah biopic, and Sharknado 2 for me - we've come a long way since Trilogy of Terror and Duel!

Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever
Avoid if you really hated Paul Blart: Mall Cop, movies that go overboard with breaking the fourth wall, a cat shamelessly hawking merch the entire 2 hrs, etc. But I ended up enjoying this! I tuned in for Aubrey Plaza's take on the female Garfield and got a good dumb Lifetime/Hallmark movie laugh. And much like the summer's awesome Sharknado sequel another drinking game awaits.

"Those guys didn't do anything to you, did they?"
"That's a different kind of Lifetime movie...if you know what I mean."

Re: What Is The Last TV Film You Watched?

- The Tree That Saved Christmas
- One Christmas Eve

Also, wow...deadline reports that Christmas Under Wraps scored one of (if not the) the biggest ratings for a basic cable film for 2014. One Christmas Eve also did fairly well, so clearly I am not the only person watching these films.

I watched Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever and I enjoyed it. I liked that the movie poked fun at Lifetime.

Re: What Is The Last TV Film You Watched?

I gave up on Grumpy Cat's movie about thirty minutes in. Insipid breaking of the fourth wall and some very odd casting for a Christmas movie.

Re: What Is The Last TV Film You Watched?

I watched Wishin' and Hopin' on Lifetime last night. It was based on a Wally Lamb story. It was like A Christmas Story, but with plot aspects from Hairspray and Simon Birch blended in. It was fun to watch.
