I'm not sure how I feel about them giving Bart a new teacher.

I think it was inevitable though. The show will still continue for who knows how long and despite Wallace's passing there will no doubt be episodes taking place at school now and again so Bart needs a teacher.

It's still going to feel different. I recently watched "Bart Gets an F" and "Bart the Lover" and Marcia Wallace's presence will definitely be missed.

Although he needs a teacher, I'm not sure if she'd be intricate to any plot lines. Her absence is "Simpsorama" wasn't really noticeable. In fact, I didn't think of it until I read the plot for tonight's episode.

The new teacher may not be a huge part of the show for all we know though. Maybe they're just establishing that Bart still has a teacher despite Edna passing away. I agree that no one will be Marcia Wallace and she'll be missed but the show is going to keep moving on.

Are they addressing it that Edna died? I figured they would have just have her retire, or something silly like win the lottery and move out of town.

They acknowledged that she died in passing last year. Flanders had a flashback to her and him dancing and he said he missed her and then Nelson came up to the window and said "haha, I miss her too". I took that as the show acknowledging that the character has passed along with Marcia.

Yeah, I had to look it up now. I missed a couple of episodes last season. That was one of them. I didn't know there was a Sideshow Bob one that recently.

I just watched that scene. It was a nice sendoff.

Looking back at the school scene in "Simpsorama", the teacher's desk was empty.

Guess I wasn't paying enough attention.

Oh man - I never thought about that (that Bart has no teacher). I remember when Marcia passed, but never thought to myself - what are they going to do with school scenes.

Guess I never noticed, with all the other characters at school (skinner, willy, nelson, etc.)

After last night he still does not have a teacher - I liked the idea of the new teacher and burning guy, but the whole tie in between the teacher and the event was weak.

Yep, Ned has a black armband on during the scene and her picture is on the table next to his wife.

I thought it was a decent episode but not the best of the season. Some decent laughs overall and I liked the burning guy event or whatever it was. Glad the new teacher isn't sticking around as I'd get sick of a character like that being on the show on a regular basis. Although I did like the end bit with him at the prison and it was cool seeing Sideshow Bob pop up for a little bit.

Why does anyone think Bart doesn't have a teacher?

there is that other woman who has been on the show, I'm pretty sure I saw her teaching in a classroom

That's Ms. Hoover who's the third grade teacher. She's Lisa's teacher as well as Ralph Wiggum's and various other characters teacher. Ms. Krabappel was the fourth grade teacher and was always Bart's teacher before the woman who voiced her passed away and the character was written off the show.

I know marsha Wallace passed away as well as Mrs. Krabapple but still not understanding the Bart not having a teacher part.

His group is sitting in an empty class?

I'd have to double check but I'm not sure if there's been an episode that was in the classroom (other than this episode with the teacher last night) so I don't think its been addressed yet.

I've long thought the refusal to add new permanent characters has made the show stagnant. I imagine hiring new voice actors is a no-go, since that would ratchet up the costs.

I somewhat agree about wishing the show would keep some of the characters that are one off guest appearances or just show up on occasion. I think the problem lies with the fact that a lot of the bigger name celebrities who lend their voice to the show now and again would be too costly to get on a regular basis. Other characters could be created and added to the show's roster though using some of the existing voice actors.
