Re: The Walking Dead (S5E05) -- "Self Help" -- 11/9/14
I hate when they film dark scenes you cant see what the hell is going on.
On that note, anyone else notice this looked a little 'soap opera effect-ish'? Normally TWD is grainy looking but this episode was clean and had that TV 'clear motion effect' going on. Maybe it was my latest Samsung update but never seen TWD look like it did last might. |
Re: The Walking Dead (S5E05) -- "Self Help" -- 11/9/14
I agree the editing was sloppy but I enjoyed the episode anyway. I loved the super soaker attack. Pretty graphic, even for this show. The sound of Eugene's face hitting the pavement...awesome!

Is Eugene not dead? I don't watch Talking Dead so maybe they revealed something there. I was just under the assumption that Abraham's temper got the best of him again (which is why it showed him killing the guys in the flashback). His temper snaps, he kills again, then immediately regretted it. I didn't even consider Eugene was still alive.

God, the Keep AMC panels that AMC flied on the screen during the episode were pretty damn obnoxious.
 Loved the reveal that Eugene was full of shit. How the hell did Abraham actually take his little "On a Mission" confession seriously in that last flashback? |
Re: The Walking Dead (S5E05) -- "Self Help" -- 11/9/14
Abraham was just about to eat a bullet. Not exactly in a clear state of mind.

I thought this episode was alright. Nothing fantastic but nothing terrible either. When the bus flipped I thought it was a tire also (heard an explosion I thought).
Don't have any complaints about seeing stuff in the dark - but I'm watching on a fairly good plasma TV, which has strong black level detail as a strength. :p |

i don't know how anyone believed Eugene. i thought that whole storyline was farcical. everything else has been riveting however!

Re: The Walking Dead (S5E05) -- "Self Help" -- 11/9/14
I thought it was something about the characters latching onto hope, even it's illogical.
I wouldn't be surprised if they cover that in the next Abe episode. |
Re: The Walking Dead (S5E05) -- "Self Help" -- 11/9/14
"I need some ass."
"Didn't need to know that, but OK." "He watches from the self-help section." Rosalita's schoolgirl pigtails are ridiculously impractical. A zombie would grab that right away. The apocalypse is not the place to be making fashion statements. So Abraham's family was so frightened of how violent he was, they ran away from him while there were zombies running around outside? That town full of zombies was difficult to see because it was so far away. I figured out what it was from the dialogue, but you'd think they'd have zoomed in a little bit. We all knew Eugene was full of shit, Abraham just needed something to believe to keep going. You would think that they'd have something in DC or something, someone would be constructing some kind of I get that he wanted to stay at the church, but doing that to the gas tank was asinine. Though they're beat up, they have a remarkable number of functioning vehicles which no on has siphoned the gas from. That fire truck was a beast, even it had a full tank and no one had used it, which I somehow doubt, it would suck so much fuel as to be limited in usefulness and not get you very far, and the water would be much better for drinking. I'm surprised there are any resources left, though I guess zombies would've killed a major portion of people so there wouldn't be a huge population to scavenge. Say, how about a sociopolitical zombie story where a country gets stuck in a zombie apocalypse and they get cut off from the world and they have to reconstruct the entire economy? The Walking Dead by David Simon, LOL. Why do they keep smashing zombie skulls with the butts of guns? Would it not be more practical to carry something with a point? Even a screwdriver or a piece of wood that'd been filed into a shiv or something? Abraham, Samson, and Gabriel? Lots of Biblical-tinged names names this season. |

But really, Carol's hair would be the way to go. Keep it short so that no one can grab it. "Fight club became the reason to cut your hair short..." |

Would zombies really go for hair though? Is it any less practical than baggy clothes? Shouldn't everyone be bald and wearing wetsuits?

Ideally wear some sort of leather jacket, some sort of forearm and shin armor (even bunched up old newspaper taped together), gloves (something like workout gloves), boots, wool socks, something like a short Chinese halberd would be a very effective hand to hand combat weapon.

The same could be said for ponytails though, but long hair in general would be problematic. Having it pulled up in some way would be better than having it down, which would be even easier to get a hold of. But really, Carol's hair would be the way to go. Keep it short so that no one can grab it.
