Modern Family (S6E05) -- "Marco Polo" -- 10/15/14

TENSIONS RUN A LITTLE HIGH ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD AND IN THE DUNPHY'S HOTEL ROOM, ON ABC'S "MODERN FAMILY"

"Marco Polo" - The Dunphys move into a cramped hotel room while their house is getting treated for mold and Phil sees this as an opportunity to spend some quality time together but Claire and the kids are less than enthused. Gloria becomes over protective when Manny starts dating an older, popular girl, and Cameron is under a lot of pressure to maintain his team's winning streak but when he realizes Mitchell may be a jinx, emotions run high, on "Modern Family," WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 15 (9:00-9:31 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

"Modern Family" stars Ed O'Neill as Jay, Julie Bowen as Claire, Ty Burrell as Phil, Sofia Vergara as Gloria, Jesse Tyler Ferguson as Mitchell, Eric Stonestreet as Cameron, Sarah Hyland as Haley, Nolan Gould as Luke, Ariel Winter as Alex, Rico Rodriguez as Manny and Aubrey Anderson-Emmons as Lily.

Guest cast includes Folake Olowofoyeku as Ayoola, Rory Scovel as Carl, Guy Stevenson as Jim, Sam Lloyd as Lester, Semi Anthony as Ndulu, Cate Cohen as Patti, Madison Iseman as Sam and Zedrick Restauro as Waiter.

"Marco Polo" was written by Elaine Ko and directed by Fred Savage.

Wasn't feeling this one. Jay and Gloria didn't have a lot to do. Cam/Mitchell's story just felt like running in place. The Dunphy hotel story didn't really 'land' with me and I thought it was pretty preposterous even for Phil that he would give out his address first with an open invite to that Nigerian family... a phone number I could see, but an address? Nobody does that unless you're setting up a concrete meetup.

Also, maybe I missed it, but why were they staying in such a dumpy hotel?

I thought the plot framing and general writing of the episode was pretty weak

I thought this was the best episode of the season.

Moreover why couldn't at least -some- of them stay with Jay and Gloria...

That what I was thinking.

Not even Phil could save this episode, it was a dud.

I just caught up with this one last night...didn't think much of it either. I liked the bit with the grenade body spray, but other than that, I didn't laugh much. Once again, everything with Mitch and Cam was SUPER-annoying.

Yes, this was definitely weak. None of the storylines offered much.

Not buying a hot/popular 18 year old chick choosing a fat 15 year old boy to make her old boyfriend jealous. Wouldn't an 18 or 17 year old do? And someone more popular and better looking?
It would make more sense if the writers just had her using Manny to help pass a class or something.
