The Affair (Showtime) - Season 1 Thread - premiering 10/12/14
THE AFFAIR stars Golden Globe(R) nominees Dominic West (The Wire) and Ruth Wilson (Luther), as well as Emmy(R) nominee Maura Tierney (ER) and SAG Award(R) nominee Joshua Jackson (Fringe). THE AFFAIR, currently in production in Montauk, NY, on ten episodes explores two marriages and the emotional and psychological effects of an extramarital affair. The provocative drama will be told from the male and female perspectives. Wilson plays Alison, a young woman waiting tables at a popular Hamptons diner, trying to piece her life back together in the wake of a personal tragedy. Her husband Cole (Jackson), struggles to keep it all together, both with his wife and the financially-strained ranch that has been in his family for generations. Their emotionally-charged marriage becomes even more complicated when Alison begins an affair with Noah (West), a New York City public school teacher and aspiring novelist who is spending the summer at his in-laws' estate out on the island. Tierney plays Helen, Noah's college sweetheart, best friend, mother of his children, lover and wife of 17 years. Award-winning playwright and writer/producer Sarah Treem (House of Cards, In Treatment) and Hagai Levy created the series. They first worked together on the American adaption of Levi's show In Treatment. Treem and Levi will both serve as executive producers, along with executive producer and director Jeffrey Reiner (Friday Night Lights) and executive producer Eric Overmyer.

Sepinwall gave this a good review. He mentions that it's told Roshomon style and I believe there is also an underlying murder mystery in the story. Not sure if I'll watch this right away, but I will eventually.
Dominic West and Ruth Wilson are both top notch UK actors.
By the way, this is currently available on demand. Showtime put it out early.

This didn't really "grab" me, but I liked it enough to give it a few episodes. Plus, Ruth Wilson is insanely hot in my book, so there's that.

I try to watch just about everything that Ruth Wilson is in so I'm sure I'll give this a go at some point this fall. It will probably pile up on the DVR for awhile though.
I do know that it will be Ruth Wilson as we've never seen her before. Glad that she didn't wait much beyond her early 30s.

I found my attention stating to drift about 10 minutes in to part 2, but it was interesting enough that I'll tune in again.
I also got a good laugh when Rawls turned out to be his father-in-law

I watched this over the weeked on Showtime OnDemand, and really liked it. Hopefully they will have the episodes before Sunday night OnDemand (like they did with Matt Leblanc's 'Episodes') because I watch Walking Dead and Homeland that night.
I like the 'two' points of view style of storytelling, and I am interested to see where the story take us.

Just watched the 1st episode tonight. Really good.I liked how the 2 perspectives were so different. Noah's perspective looked at Allison like she was the hottest piece of ass he's ever seen. And then Allison's perspective made her look like she was a frumpy and miserable woman. She seemed more of a flirt in his POV. I thought it was funny too that even her waitress uniform was different in both perspectives. She had a longer skirt in her point of view and a really short one in his view. The beach scene both were dressed dramatically different. This definitely has the Roshomon influence.
The interrogation scene looks like years have past. So I'm guessing that will be an integral part of a 2nd or 3rd season. Something obviously happened possibly to one of their spouses or possibly Noah and Allison are together in the future scene.
I'm intrigued to see where this goes.

Second episode was on tonight and continues to hold up. Really like the different perspectives. This show seemed to have come out of nowhere and is quickly turning into my Fall favorite.

I thought I would hate this show but I love the way it is told from the different points of view and will slowly build up to what happened in between. And LOL at Rawls popping up out of nowhere. Wire fam popping up everywhere these days.

Awesome show. I haven't had a Sunday night program to watch since the spring.
This is right up my alley. Great writing, great acting and a unique point of view to the show.
