South Park (S18E02) -- "Gluten Free Ebola" -- 10/1/2014

Mr. Mackey is now gluten free and everyone is annoyed when he won’t quit preaching about how great he feels. But, after witnessing a disturbing demonstration of what happens to your body when you do eat gluten, South Park becomes the first town in America to go gluten free.

Not as good as last week. I did enjoy the gluten aspect because everything seems to be headed in that direction. Especially the people who are gluten free. They are becoming the new vegetarians and vegans.

"You son of a bitch! Did you not know, or did you not care? Kee-Ya!"

"Look, I'm OK! Do you want to see my dick?"

God bless Randy Marsh.

I liked it. Not their best but still pretty good. I liked them ripping on gluten free people. I was hoping the idea of having a party for Scott Malkinson was going to lead to them making fun of the Ice Bucket Challenge.

I laughed way more this week than last. The visual of dicks flying off was hilarious.

Thought it was okay, not great. Randy as Lorde was pretty awesome.

I could watch Randy every week doing something stupid. I dug this episode because it reminds me of people I know, but last week's was a much better episode. Still some funny gags in this. I was hoping for a Peyton Manning cameo with the Papa John's in Denver.

I hope they weren't serious about butter and fat being at the top of the pyramid. Not unless you want a coronary in short order. Or maybe I have an irony deficiency.

Loved Randy's reaction when the guy ate the dough at Papa John's, then died.

I was expecting one of the USDA guys eating the butter and steak to keel over from a heart attack.

Loved how Garrison was ripping on gluten-free holier than thou Mackey.

Great Randy episode.

I liked this quite a bit because I'm surrounded by tiresome gluten-free people at work. Plus, dicks flying off. Plus, Randy.

I noticed in the end credits, some of the names had "GF" badges next to them. I don't think they were serious, unless Trey and Matt are recent converts.

You can tell who's gluten-free in this thread.

Me either, but it's always fun to see Randy freaking out over something.

I only catch SP off and on nowadays. Is the continuity with a previous episode something new?

Yeah, that kind of thew me off. There's obviously been past nods to prior episodes in season past but not on that I can recall that fell in to the next one, sans the "trilogy" episodes.

I found this episode fairly boring and somewhat lame in its comedy.

They've flirted with continuity before. Mr. Garrison coming out was a story arc that lasted several episodes. Kenny died "for real" for about half a season, then ended up possessing Cartman for a few episodes.

They've also had several two parters, starting with "Cartman's Mom Is a Dirty Slut" at the end of season 1.

Typically their episodes more or less press "reset" at the end and the next episode has nothing to do with it, but there have been exceptions before this one.

I liked how there was continuity between the episodes

Also the dicks flying off was a highlight...even the mice had them flying off in the background.

I really liked this episode. It felt more like "old school" South Park than almost all of the episodes from the last five or so years.

Mixing the "gluten-free" fad with Ebola, the dicks flying off like rockets, Randy, etc.

Re: South Park (S18E02) -- "Gluten Free Ebola" -- 10/1/2014

It seems like South Park has joined the ranks of The Simpsons and its cool for people on the Internet to hate on it now..

Personally I found the episode pretty damn funny. I liked how irritated Mr. Garrison was with Mr. Mackey because of how he was going on about being gluten free. I also enjoyed the stuff with Randy and think episodes with him as part of the focus usually turn out great. The dicks flying off after eating gluten products was also a pretty funny gag. I also found it funny how they had the GF by the names of people on the cast who are gluten free.
