Selfie (ABC) - Series Thread
"Instafamous" Eliza Dooley (Karen Gillan) has 263,000 followers who hang on to her every post, tweet and selfie. But one lonely day, she has a revelation: being friended is not the same as having actual friends. She asks marketing guru Henry (John Cho) to 'rebrand' her self-obsessed reputation and teach her how to connect with people in the real world. Loosely based on "My Fair Lady," "Selfie" explores the modern struggles of Eliza and Henry, as he tries to teach her how to live life offline - whether she 'likes' it or not.

I'm rooting for this to fail just based on that title.

I hated it. I thought I'd watch anything with Karen Gillan... I was wrong. It takes the tone of Suburgatory, and ramps it up a few notches. Even more snark, even more clueless rich girl, even more camp...
Its basically unwatchable.

I didn't watch and have no plans to. I am wondering how soon it will get canned and they will just burn off the other episodes in the summer or something.
And I am really REALLY scared of John Cho's eyebrows.

I watched it OnDemand. The lead gal was very unlikeable in the first half of the show plus the tweets/texts/etc. were very annoying. Fortunately the tweets and texts were cut down in the second half.
I'll probably watch the second episode, if it makes it that far, before deciding its fate on the dvr, but much of it was not for me.

I have as big a crush on Karen Gillan as anybody but I'm expecting this to get canceled about 10 minutes after it debuts.

Hopefully she's not as annoying as she was on Doctor Who. At least she won't have that awful Scottish accent, right? I'll give it a shot...

I really hate it when talent I appreciate ends up in a dismal show ....... yeah, it's a paycheck, but better luck next time out.

This achieved a 1.4 rating, Manhattan Love Story had a 1.3.

That really is a bummer. I remember seeing the trailer for that Aaron Paul's racing movie, and thinking how did his people let him make that choice?!? I'm a bit more forgiving of Idris Elba's choices over the years, because it's not like they hand out roles to black actors in hollywood, but I've felt the same thing about him a good bunch too.

I watched this because I love John Cho but now I wish he'd go back to Sleepy Hollow. This show was a mess right from the vomit filled beginning and didn't really get better. I might give it one more episode to see if it improves.

I finally watched this last night. It wasn't as terrible as I expected. I'm not a big "My Fair Lady" fan, but I thought it was clever the way they modernized it.

Liked it a lot based on the pilot that was up on the Internet a few weeks in advance of the broadcast premiere, but was SHOCKED to see that they made MAJOR edits and changes and replaced a few scenes in their entirety before it hit the air. I guess they were trying to make her more likeable with all the changes, but I thought it was fine in the earlier version. Well, the new scene at Henry's house might have been an improvement. But they cut a funny line from the stewardess. And they cut a line and the moment of hesitation when the whole book club showed up to do the makeunder, so it lost something there.
Henry's little rhyme (on what to wear to the wedding) was very Higgins-esque.

Holy crap this was horrible. I missed half of the pilot last week so I was looking forward to trying it but it was a chore to get through 30 minutes.

Just mindless entertainment. I'll watch it if it is on and I want to watch something on TV, otherwise, if I never saw another episode, I'd never miss it.

Re: Selfie (ABC) - Series Thread
I think the show has some potential, but besides good writing, they need more characters. It can't be sustained by just Henry and Eliza. If you look at any successful sitcom, they all have an ensemble casts: Cheers, Seinfeld, Friends, How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, New Girl, Community (yes, I'm including Community - it's my list dammit). I'd say they need a minimum of four core characters.
