Scorpion (CBS) -- Season 1 Thread -- From Producer Justin Lin

WHEN A CRISIS AT LAX LEAVES DOZENS OF AIRPLANES UNABLE TO LAND, THE GOVERNMENT ENLISTS A TEAM OF MISFIT GENIUSES TO SAVE THE DAY, ON THE SERIES PREMIERE OF "SCORPION," MONDAY, SEPT. 22

Elyes Gabel, Robert Patrick, Katharine McPhee, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Jadyn Wong and Ari Stidham Star

"Pilot" - When a crisis at LAX leaves dozens of airplanes unable to land, the government enlists a team of misfit geniuses to save the day, on the series premiere of SCORPION, Monday, Sept. 22 (9:00-9:59, ET/PT), on the CBS Television Network.

SCORPION, inspired by a true story, is a high-octane drama about eccentric genius Walter O'Brien and his team of brilliant misfits, who comprise the last line of defense against complex, high-tech threats of the modern age. As Homeland Security's new think tank, O'Brien's "Scorpion" team includes Toby Curtis, an expert behaviorist who can read anyone; Happy Quinn, a mechanical prodigy; and Sylvester Dodd, a statistics guru. Pooling their extensive technological knowledge to solve mind-boggling predicaments amazes federal agent Cabe Gallo, who shares a harrowing history with O'Brien. However, while this socially awkward group is comfortable with each other's humor and quirks, life outside their circle confounds them, so they rely on Paige Dineen, who has a young, gifted son, to translate the world for them. At last, these nerdy masterminds have found the perfect job: a place where they can apply their exceptional brainpower to solve the nation's crises, while also helping each other learn how to fit in.

REGULAR CAST:

Elyes Gabel (Walter O'Brien)
Robert Patrick (Agent Cabe Gallo)
Katharine McPhee (Paige Dineen)
Eddie Kaye Thomas (Toby Curtis)
Jadyn Wong (Happy Quinn)
Ari Stidham (Sylvester Dodd)

Alimi Ballard (Co-Pilot)
Ernie Hudson (Brooks)
Jake Regal (Randy)
David Burr (Gordon Tooley)
Desean Terry (Agent Bates)
Sean Patrick Murphy (Agent #2)

WRITTEN BY: Nick Santora

DIRECTED BY: Justin Lin

Justin Lin is an Executive Producer on this series and directed the Pilot. Nick Santora, who created Breakout Kings, is the showrunner.

Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are also credited Producers.

I'm checking this out, but I'm not doing this series as weekly threads. Only a select number of shows will get weekly threads this TV season. There's just too much and most here already struggle keeping up weekly.

Something tells me this show is gonna be hella stupid, but I'm in for Katharine McPhee. Hell I watched two seasons of Smash for her.

Same here. Can't be worse than H50 and that's on what, it's fifth season?

Too much on tonight. I like McPhee and Lin... but I'll probably skip this. If the reviews in the thread are favorable, I'll check it out on demand.

But yeah, the nerd group shot in the OP is almost enough to make me change my mind.

I'll try it out. If it's half as good as Hawaii Five-0, I'll be in for the season.

Reviews are calling it an epic train-wreck... sounds like a great drinking game so far. Take a sip every time someone says "genius" and chug your drink every time a genius does some colossally stupid.

Just watched the trailer in the OP and wonder why this wasn't a TNT movie of the week.

This show is ridiculously awful in so many ways, yet I'm really connecting with McPhee's character and her kid. I'll probably watch until it gets cancelled, which I hope will be soon.

I'm watching this for T-1000 and McPhee, who has one of the prettiest faces in all of Hollywood.

The show looks like shit, though.

I liked it enough to keep watching.
Feels like a comic book show.

The airplane thing was preposterous though, maybe the Flash could have done it.

I honestly think that the writing on this show has reached a never again to be surpassed and inconceivably epic -- EPIC -- level of stupidity. And I have many years of watching epic Hollywood stupidity under my belt. This show's stupidity leaves me utterly breathless.

re: Scorpion (CBS) -- Season 1 Thread -- From Producer Justin Lin

soooo they cancel Intelligence for this? I know it's not as simple as a direct A is canceled so B is made but still..

Network cancels a show about a spec op guy with a super PC chip in his brain, that ran around kicking ass everywhere, hacking stuff by just looking at it. Then the network green lights a new show about a group of nerds sitting around a Dennys tapping on lap tops? Took 40+ min before anything happened and even then it was just two of them standing around outside a U-Store it place..

what a horrible pilot ep..
I really like McPhee and as others have mentioned in this thread already I watched Smash being she was on it so odds are I'll keep an eye on this show too but this pilot was just bad.. Really, really bad.. I don't think I'm going to be more disappointed by a new show this season being I was pretty nerd hyped for this one..

I'll catch a few more eps just to be fair but wow, so bad.. Sit around dennys.. tap tap a lap top.. Go to a U-store.. watch the lead actor be an all around snarky jackass 12+ times.. Yeah this show is going to get canceled*

*I also thought Titanic would be a huge flop sooooo.. yeah who knows..

Not many people like this show ... HUGE SURPRISE !!!

I liked it enough to keep going.

I'll probably watch until it gets cancelled, which I hope will be soon.
Why do you hope it gets canned? What else will you watch that you cant just watch instead, now? 'I hope it gets cancelled' ... did it offend you or something hahahaha

Like I said, I really liked the stuff with McPhee's kid but I feel dirty watching the rest. I don't like feeling this conflicted, so I hope CBS takes the decision out of my hands.

Seriously, that "I hope it gets cancelled soon" was 98% tongue-in-cheek.

I enjoyed the heck out of this show, and can care less that pigs in tutus buzzing the LAX tower in the show would be more realistic than what I just watched, the show just worked for me. This is junk food TV that I will continue to consume. It also helps that I have had a crush on Katharine McPhee since her days as a contestant on American Idol.

Agree. Thought it was really fun. I like the junk food TV comment. I mean it's pure escapism entertainment. It was essentially a pint sized version of one of Justin Lin's Fast and Furious movies. That plane landing & sequence was , but also pretty spectacular for a TV budget.

I liked Kat McPhee's character and her son. Rather than it focusing on the nerds and hardass Robert Patrick running the show all the time, at least that adds a little heart to it. Plus, she is cute as hell.

This is essentially a weekly action caper procedural from how they set it up. And that's fine with me.

Why did they have to hook up the laptop to a moving plane instead of just landing the plane first?
