Justified - The Final Season: News, Casting, etc.
Some casting news popped up today that's got me pretty stoked:
"Sam Elliott and Garret Dillahunt are headed to Harlan.
They have joined the cast of FX’s modern cowboy drama “Justified” in recurring roles in its upcoming sixth and final season.
Elliott will play Markham, a former Kentucky gangster who returns from exile...
Dillahunt’s character, Walker, brings special ops and combat zone experience — along with buried demons and simmering rage — to his work as the head of security for a semi-legal businessman. If five seasons of the critically-acclaimed “Justified” are any indication, it stands to reason that Timothy Olyphant’s Raylan Givens will have some part in unearthing those demons and revealing that rage.
The sixth season of “Justified” premieres in January 2015. The show is produced by Sony Pictures Television and FX Productions."
Variety
Elliott will be great in the world of Harlan, and Dillahunt, I think, will play 'simmering rage' real well.

Sam Elliott is always welcome in anything. I don't know who the other guy is.
This has to already make it better than last season, which was a chore and borderline insufferable with Michael Rapaport in what was essentially a starring role. It was like they had no direction and were just writing episodes as they were going along.
As much as I've enjoyed the show, the only truly "great" season to me was Season 2. Everything else has been very good with some real meh sprinkled in.

I won't say Rapaport was great last season, but I am thankful he didn't annoy me like he did others. I know that stuff did happen with casting that made them rethink the season which is maybe why it wasn't their strongest season. The Dewey stuff was gold, though.
I know Dillahunt mostly from the 'Raising Hope' tv show, and he played that character with a mix of affability and insanity.

Yet another Deadwood alum joins the cast (Dillahunt)! I wonder if he'll play two different roles here too?

A big to those casting choices. Last season was a mess, but I'm optimistic the show will go out with a bang.

Both sound like real good casting choices
EDIT: Granted this isn't exactly Marilyn Manson and Courtney Love but not every show can cast like Sutter does (#gratuitous SOA shot)

Last season was great aside from the one episode they had to make standalone due to the guy who was miserable and the horrid Rappaport casting choice. Anybody watching who thought it was horrid needs to watch this season of Sons of Anarchy for the textbook definition of horrible.
The casting appears to be much better this year.

Love Garrett Dillahunt! Sam Elliot is cool too.
Dillahunt also played a bad guy on the shot lived show Life with Damien Lewis and Sarah Shahi.

I know Dillahunt has been in tons of things, but after Raising Hope all I see and hear is Burt.

Dilahunt is easily one of the best character actors working today and I really wish someone would select him as the primary actor in some brooding HBO/Showtime/FX series.
And I have to say I pretty shocked most of the mentions of him in this thread is from fucking Terminator and Raising Hope. He played not 1, but 2 characters in Deadwood, was also great in Milch's underrated John from Cincinnati along with a ton of other guest and recurring parts (ie Damages). He also has great roles in films such as No Country for Old Men, Winters Bone, 12 Years a Slave and the Last House on the Left remake (film sucked but he was creepy as hell). He has great range and can play so many characters so I am officially really excited by this season. Elliot being there as well is the cherry on the sundae.

He also bridges this Leonard TV project with Maximum Bob, the first Leonard TV project I personally recall.
At least people didn't mention his guest shot on Memphis Beat. I like Jason Lee but UGH.

Didn't Art stake his claim to retirement and place Rachel in charge before getting shot last season? I don't see him nearly dying in S5 and then actually dying in S6.

Graham Yost says they have not filmed the ending yet. They have 10 episodes shot, 11 is written, outlining the script for 12.
