Haven (SyFy) -- The Final Season Thread

Returns Thursday, September 11 at 10PM -- When the series returns for its fifth season, Haven's protectors are thrust into uncharted waters: Duke (Eric Balfour) is now a ticking time bomb, fighting to contain the Troubles within him, while Nathan (Lucas Bryant) faces his greatest fear that Audrey (Emily Rose) -- the woman he's fought so desperately to save -- may be gone forever. Haven, which rose 11 percent among Adults 18-34 and 3 percent among Adults 18-49 during its fourth season, is based on the novella The Colorado Kid from renowned author Stephen King. From leading independent studio Entertainment One (eOne), Haven is co-commissioned by Shaw Media in Canada and globally via Universal Networks International (UNI).The creative team behind Haven includes executive producers John Morayniss (Klondike, Rogue) from eOne Television and David MacLeod (Legends of the Fall, The Ray Bradbury Theater) of Big Motion Pictures, who are joined by Lloyd Segan, Shawn Piller, Scott Shepherd (Stephen King's The Dead Zone, Greek) of Piller/Segan/Shepherd and Matt McGuinness (Journeyman, Franklin and Bash) and Gabrielle Stanton (The Vampire Diaries, Grey's Anatomy). The series was developed by Sam Ernst and Jim Dunn (Stephen King's The Dead Zone).

26 episode 5th season. Yes, 26. It will be a split season. 13 will air this Fall and 13 will air next year. They are filming all 26 episodes at once.

Episode 5.01 - See No Evil

Audrey, Nathan and Duke's victory over William feels hollow as they deal with the aftermath.

I love Haven and it's one of my favorites on Syfy, but I won't be doing weekly threads this season.

Mara is kind of mean.

Good episode and glad to have one of my favorite shows back.

Good start to season 5. Liked that it picked up literally moments after season 4.

Mara is cold blooded. Just shows how Emily Rose has really grown as an actress. She's done good work playing multiple characters. Like this new direction making her the villain for the time being.

Thinnies! I was surprised to see them pull something like that from another King book (Dark Tower IV), since the show has never really connected to King's universe otherwise.

I guess Audrey doesn't love Nathan enough to stop Mara. I'd be happy with not seeing much of William this season.

Wow, I can't believe they killed off
Spoiler:
Jennifer. I imagine the cast was getting too expensive to maintain but I liked it when they added her last season.

Poor Nathan took that bullet like a trooper, after a few minutes he seemed back to normal.

This is one series I wish had more exposure, it certainly deserves a larger following.

^ I stumbled into that spoiler a couple of months ago on Facebook. From what I read the actress didn't want to continue on the show.

I haven't like the direction the show is going from last season. It is just too contrived.

Yeah, it's gotten pretty out there but I'm always pleasantly surprised to see it on my dvr each new season. I never expected it to get past season 1.

My only complaint is that we've had very little Audrey on the show in the past season. We've seen way too much of the evil doppelganger. Looking back, while I have enjoyed the past season I wish they had made Duke the evil villain.

re: Haven (SyFy) -- The Final Season Thread

Watched episode 2 last night.

I kind of miss the real Audrey. We kind of got a brief glimpse of her fighting Mara to relay that message to Nathan. But yes, the last 2 seasons, we have seen so little of the real Audrey.

Sucks that they killed off Jennifer. I enjoyed having her on the show and she was good for Duke. But, if that's true that she didn't want to return, I kind of understand why. With the huge episode order and them shooting all of them at once, that's a huge time commitment to live in Nova Scotia for 6-8 months or possibly longer.

Episode 3 last Thursday was pretty solid.

Some really good acting by Emily Rose, especially who she went in and out of the Mara character back to Audrey.

Overall, I find this new arc pretty compelling.

The "Trouble Plot of the Week" with Duke and his friend with the light beams was entertaining. Surprised that Balfour chopped off his hair.

She's really good at playing Evil Mara. You can tell Rose is having fun with this character.

Loving the season so far.

Haven't watched it yet, but it's apparently set back when the Troubles first appeared.

That was quick. Ratings must be horrible. I'm now worried we won't see all 26 or so episodes that they've already completed.

Syfy will air all the episodes, expecially since its a split season but I don't want to hold out hope for a season six.

I think the move was because Syfy likes to use this as a lead in, during the Summer it was the syndicated version of Spartacus. Now on Fridays, its the lead in to Smackdown.

at the Dave/Vince and Dwight/Coroner "soul jumping" this past episode. It was a nice bit of levity in a pretty dark season.

re: Haven (SyFy) -- The Final Season Thread

The ratings must have been horrible on Thursdays, which is a shame. The season itself has been pretty good with Mara's crazy brand of villainy.

We were never going to get a season six. Syfy basically gave it a season six by doubling season 5's episode order. The main stars' contracts are all up for renewal and Emily Rose could easily get herself another starring gig, so she would have a ton of leverage if Syfy wanted to continue past this batch of episodes. There is a reason why no Syfy series ever makes it past five seasons.

Yeah, I never expected a season 6 but I do hope that with knowing they have 26 episodes the writers are able to give us a good finale.

The body-switching episode was better than I was expecting, we've seen that gimmick on so many shows. The former wrestler playing Dwight has turned out to be a pretty solid addition to the cast.
