I know I'm early but here's the info on the 40th Season Premiere...
As far as the cast goes... there are only a few players confirmed as returning and departed:

I guess I need to give him more time, but I'm not all that pumped that Colin Jost is back.
I'm already tired of the ads for Mulaney.

Killam has to be back, right? He's the most talented guy on the show... I've really come to like Pharoah too.

There's a new Weekend Update anchor, but it's not Colin Jost that's being replaced!

Saturday Night Live has named a new Weekend Update anchor.
Comedian Michael Che will replace Cecily Strong, SNL executive producer Lorne Michaels told The New York Times. Strong will remain on the show as a featured player.

I hope they have an awesome 40th Anniversary special. Their 20th was pretty amazing (or was it 25th?).

Jost must have serious pull behind the scenes because he has the stage presence of a stinky dish rag.

Give it to them. Unlike most of the current cast, Cecily Strong will have a career after the show.

Why does doing Weekend Update reduce your availability for sketches? I get that there's preparation involved, but do they have to write the material too?
I'm a big surprised they didn't save Grande for a dual hosting/musical guest role, though she may not be big enough yet and/or doesn't have a big movie to promote.

I agree for the most part with the non renewals but they really need to get K.M. and J.P. signed otherwise I wont be watching this season! Sad to see Pedrad go she had some great characters!
Hate that Cecily Strong was demoted, doesn't make sense

re: SNL Season 40 discussion (premieres 9/27/2014)
Reporting is that "They" liked the chemistry of Jost and Che as a team.
If the plan is for WU to feature more interaction between the hosts, then that is great (if the interaction is entertaining). Their chemistry certainly elevated the Fey/Fallon and Fey/Poehler years.
Why does the OP think Kate McKinnon's status is unknown? She's like the star of the cast now.
I think it would be disrespectful to Pardo's memory to have Hammond doing an impression of the dead man. They won't do this because it is too clever, but for the anniversary season, they should have a different cast member from the past do the announcing each week.
