Minority Report sequel series Pilot ordered by FOX

http://deadline.com/2014/09/minority...rg-fox-829426/

Minority Report, the hot drama project from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television and Godzilla writer Max Borenstein, has landed at Fox with a big put pilot commitment. The series, based on the 2002 movie directed by Spielberg, hails from 20th Century Fox TV and Paramount TV, whose feature siblings produced the Tom Cruise-starring film. It was bought pre-emptively by Fox, which I hear offered a penalty close to $1 million to take the property off the market.

The series is envisioned as a sequel to the movie. It is set 10 years after the end of Precrime in DC. One of the three Precogs 2014 Los Angeles Film Festival - Coffee Talks: Screenwritersstruggles to lead a “normal” human life, but remains haunted by visions the future, when he meets a detective haunted by her past who just may help him find a purpose to his gift. Borenstein will executive produce with Amblin TV’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey. Spielberg, who obviously is close to the property, was involved in developing the series take.

The deal marks Fox’s return to an arena it tackled with another futuristic drama, Almost Human, last season. In addition to Minority Report, Amblin TV has supernatural drama The Possession Of Maggie Gill from writer John Glenn at NBC. The company has seven series on the air including the upcoming Red Band Society, also on Fox. Its pilot Lumen is awaiting formal green light at TNT. Paramount’s year-old TV division also has business with Fox — it is producing a live staging of Grease for the network. It also recently received a 13-episode, straight-to-series pickup by sibling cable network Nickelodeon for a live-action musical comedy based on the 2003 Paramount feature School Of Rock and is developing a Shutter Island series for HBO with Martin Scorsese.

How would a sequel work considering at the end
Spoiler:
The Pre-Cog sister's are freed and living life in a remote Cabin? Maybe a rival company kidnaps the sisters and forces them back to work?

Who cares... it'll just be cancelled after 1 season of airing out of order episodes.

I was going to post the exact same sentence. Funny.

New regime at FOX and they actually have a stake in this show this time around compared to Almost Human, which they didn't own. Plus, there is the financial penalty is this doesn't get picked up.

They gave up on Almost a Human and now want us to watch a series based on a movie?

I love how everyone blasts Fox for their track record on Science Fiction shows yet they are clearly the one major network willing to take a chance on producing true scifi content to begin with.

They're the only one. Almost Human would have done better on cable.

Firefly fans have never forgiven them, I wager.

From EW.com:

...which is where the sequel comes in. Haunted by visions of the future, one of the Precogs teams with a detective who is haunted by her past.
Also:

Minority Report, also produced by 20th Century Fox and Paramount TV, was given a put pilot commitment, meaning Fox will have to pay a heavy penalty if it doesn’t go to pilot.
So... typical cliche police procedural setup and Fox has to give it a go.

I didn't see a single episode of Almost Human ... But it sounds to me as if they canceled it and then brought it back in a new form.

Will Spielberg exec produce? Wouldn't surprise me, he's done it on more than his share of TV.

The new CEOs of FOX (Walden and Newman) also are the CEOs of 20th Century FOX TV, who is co-producing this. Since they have a personal stake in this show, I'm sure they are going to be pretty hands on with it's development and make sure it doesn't suck.

Almost Human was going to get renewed, but Kevin Reilly's boss at FOX nixed it since FOX didn't own the show and it wasn't making money for them. A show like this which is produced in house or co-produced by the network airing it has a little more leeway. Shows produced by other studios need to have really good ratings for the network to even consider keeping it.

I don't trust Fox. I have a new rule for myself...I won't watch until there is a second season!! I loved Almost Human and it got cancelled (insert violin music here)

I don't need a precog to predict that this will be a disaster.

But if they know it's going to be a disaster, they can prevent it from being one!

"Hands on" and "doesn't suck" are practically opposites in my experience. Shows always suffer when executives interfere.
