The League (FXX) - Season 6 Discussion Thread - Wednesdays starting 9/3/14

FXX's hit comedy series The League will return for its sixth season on Wednesday, September 3 at 10:00 PM ET/PT. FXX will air 13 all new episodes during Season Six followed by nine new episodes of comedy series Ali G Rezurection at 10:30 PM ET/PT. The League follows a group of old friends in a fantasy football league who care deeply about one another - so deeply that they use every opportunity to make each other's lives miserable. The League features an ensemble cast of rising actors/comedians. Stephen Rannazzisi (Paul Blart: Mall Cop) is "Kevin," a happily married father and commissioner of the league. Katie Aselton (Black Rock) plays "Jenny," Kevin's wife and his better half - especially when it comes to Fantasy Football. Mark Duplass (Tammy) plays "Pete," the perennial league champ who is struggling to become an adult. Jon Lajoie is "Taco," Kevin's little brother, a part-time musician and full-time stoner with little interest in fantasy other than hanging with his buddies (whom he struggles to remember). Nick Kroll (Kroll Show) plays "Ruxin," who believes he is the smartest of the group but can't figure out how exactly the other guys are screwing him over. "Andre," played by Paul Scheer (NTSF:SD:SUV), has continued to be the punching bag of the group since their high school days - a fact that hasn't changed despite the fact he is now a successful plastic surgeon. The League was created by the husband-and-wife team of Jeff Schaffer (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld) and Jackie Marcus Schaffer (Disturbia, Eurotrip) who serve as executive producers and directors. The series is produced by FX Productions.
13 episode 6th season.

There wasn't much action in the weekly threads last year, so I think a season thread should suffice this year (especially since a lot of people said they would be bailing due to quality).

Weird not having the show paired up with Always Sunny.

The last two seasons have been so hot & cold at times. Season four was terrible until that epic finale and the first 2/3rds of last season were bad and the final third was probably the funniest the shows ever been. Fingers crossed this starts out great cause I've been in a DVR ditching mood lately.

I just rewatched season 5 and really enjoyed it. Loved Andre's long con dance in the last episode, that just cracked me up

What is it paired with now?

I didn't know Always Sunny wasn't premiering until January. That sucks.

Looks like Ali G is right after it, which I don't care for.

Looking forward to the premiere of The League though.

This is one show i would love to see the outtakes for

As it's semi scripted, there would be some really cool ones

Re: The League (FXX) - Season 6 Discussion Thread - Wednesdays starting 9/3/14

Finally watching Season 5 on Netflix. I'm about half way through and don't think it is as bad as I had heard. The low spots are pretty low (the Rafi/Dirty Randy episode was a complete waste -- and to think some of you asked for it!), but the season as a whole has been pretty good.

Should wrap up tonight or tomorrow night and move on to Season 6 since we get FXX now. (HD would be nice though.)

I didn't think it was that bad. The Cameron Jordan/Jordan Cameron bit was pretty funny. So was Kevin being the new Andre.

Last season sucked, looks like they're continuing that trend.

Andre's flash mob.

Loved the Jordan Cameron and Cameron Jordan thing, too. Not a super strong premiere, but it wasn't terrible.

I thought it started off really good with Kevin peeing and not being able to perform because of the Sacko, being the new Andre, and I liked the street golf stuff. The funeral stuff wasn't particularly good though.

I hope they keep the "Teflondre" thing going throughout the season, but other than that it was not a very good episode.

This show has really gone downhill since it started pandering to women viewers.

Re: The League (FXX) - Season 6 Discussion Thread - Wednesdays starting 9/3/14

I tend to like the episodes where the fantasy football aspect takes on more of a background role.

Mr. McGibblets, the White Knuckler, the High School Reunion, Yobogoya, Carmenjello: all really had little or nothing to do with fantasy football.

I never really think of the draft episodes as highlights of the season, although the one where they lock Andre out of his apartment and get Rafi and Dirty Randy involved was pretty great.

Re: The League (FXX) - Season 6 Discussion Thread - Wednesdays starting 9/3/14

I thought the first segment was pretty funny, Taco always brings the best lines. "I need to unwind after an eight-hour work week."

The rest was pretty bad and the ending so ridiculous I realized this show just doesn't have it anymore. I am sick of the Kevin and Jenny storylines, I think the show would be better off dropping them completely at this point.

Re: The League (FXX) - Season 6 Discussion Thread - Wednesdays starting 9/3/14

I thought this was better than last season's premiere, but I found the funeral scene in bad taste (even for The League). Still, I laughed out loud a few times. The show is clearly past its prime, though.

It seems like they have funny concepts, but the execution is flat. My pet peeve, the players in cameos, was in full effect this episode, and was horrible. The actors just don't seem into it.

Yeah, the show always seems to suffer when they bring in real life player cameos. Which seems too frequent these days too.

I also agree with the bringing in of real players drags thing down. I did get a chuckle, though, when the one NFL guy (forget his name) carried out the casket in one arm like it was a suitcase.

Wow, that episode was one giant miss. I think I chuckled once or twice. I still remember the days of laughing so hard I had to rewind, this show is hitting the bottom hard.

Re: The League (FXX) - Season 6 Discussion Thread - Wednesdays starting 9/3/14

The combine intro was good but it was quickly downhill from there.

The major problem with the show is that it's gone too far into the absurd. The first couple of great season had things start off fairly normal and then the story snowballs into an absurd final scene. Now they don't get into wacky situations because things spiral out of control, but because all of them are now selfish, socially inept and dumb.
