While it's true he was undermining the anti-vampire effort, he wasn't engaged in direct action against the heroes. Had he not died Eichhorst would eventually make that demand of him, and then we would have seen how far he was really willing to go. Disposing of evidence is easily rationalized compared to murder.
I appreciate that they finally explained what makes Eichhorst different from the animal-like hordes of regular vampires.

There was nothing more to blackmail. The cancer cure was a thing of the past and last episode Eichhorst already stated that he was going to kill his wife.

Fet is awesome. Sizes up the situation and asks Setrakian what's up, unlike Eph who keeps questioning him. I hope Eph realizes now that a medical cure isn't going to work.
I thought Fet was gonna go Point Break on the vamps by using the gas nozzle as a flame thrower. I guess hotty hacker will now restore the network in the next episodes?

I'd say he was chosen to go because the blackmail thing was over, he was going to lose his wife anyway, and of the characters he was the best choice to go. Have no idea if he went first in the book, but it makes sense for the series IMO.

This show started out slow, but I am really enjoying it. It's great to see a vampire show where the vampires just want to kill you, not have sex with you.
In fact, they can't even have sex if they wanted to because their junk fell off.

I suspect that was an intentional decision when the story was constructed to eliminate that possible development.
