I am planning on using "pudding brain" as a regular insult now.

I noticed the same thing. I kept wondering if that was his Son or something.

I stopped watching when Matt Smith took over as the Doctor. Capaldi is much better but still not as good as Tennant

Re: Doctor Who (S8E03) -- “Robot of Sherwood” -- 9/6/14

Only three episodes in and Capaldi hasn't impressed me much as the Doctor. I hope that he grows on me like Smith did. So far not really liking his persona. If the best they can do to "tone him down" is to make him a "spoon" fighter against swords and then to stand on the bridge after he knocks his opponent in only to be suprised that his opponent swims under the bridge to push him in, then I may have to give up on the Doctor. I have watched religously since they restarted the franchise in 2005 (not alot prior to that) but this iteration is not to my liking thus far. And I am not particularly liking how they are changing Clara.

Also, Ben Miller costs a bit more than those other two actors, who will likely be brought back in the season finale.

When ghosts of past and future crowd into their lives, the Doctor and Clara are thrown into an adventure that takes them to the very end of the universe.

What happens when the Doctor is alone? And what scares the grand old man of Time and Space? Listen!

Nothing. Or another kid. Or a monster. Or maybe all or none of the above.

These DW threads are getting thinner. I hope people are not giving up on the show already.

I thought it was a good episode.

Re: Doctor Who (S8E04) -- “Listen” -- 9/13/14

Read the leaked scripts, and the one for this episode is the one that really threw me.

When the two mystery people first mentioned Time Lords and the academy my first instinct was that a Pink, either Danny, Orson, or some other descendent of Danny and Clara was going to be a Time Lord, with the implication being that Earth humans were destined to become the Time Lords (which has been a fan theory for a long time), and that Orson Pink was the first Time Lord.

Overall a good episode, probably the best so far, but I'm still wondering who or what was under that sheet and who wrote "Listen" on the Doctor's chalkboard...

Wasn't it Clara? She was the monster under the Doctors bed.

Yeah, that was surely the Doctor as a kid, not another Pink descendant.

And I must say that while I'm liking Capaldi, this was the first episode of the season I've actually liked.

That ep may require a second viewing. Was certainly the most though provoking story so far.

I loved the episode but it made my dislike of Clara grow as she was made even more important with her speech to the Doctor as a child. Not to mention her using the TARDIS for her own selfish means as she had the Doctor bring her back to fix the date.

Re: Doctor Who (S8E04) -- “Listen” -- 9/13/14

See I liked Clara's speech though I could watch Jenna Coleman read stock quotes and not be bored. She's my favorite of the new companions.

I enjoyed it even more the second time around. Feels like Capaldi is settling into the role. I liked his more casual attire. Thought I saw him wearing fingerless gloves but I guess it was just the long sleeves covering the tops of his hands.

His naive insults with Clara cracked me up like his comments about her makeup or needing 3 mirrors for her wide face or "little you must be in there somewhere with your little brain."

Great twist with the young Doctor. Looking forward to next week's heist ep.

We'll eventually find out when the blanket reappears. Moffat loves his continuity as shown in the barn reappearing from the 50th anniversary special.

Was that John Hurt scene new? Quite surprised to see that.

It wasn't Clara herself that was the problem, I just didn't like the ending. It was cheesy... and then the credits rolled.

So, already in this season we've seen four different Doctors (1, 8.5, 11, 12).

Re: Doctor Who (S8E04) -- “Listen” -- 9/13/14

Like others, I've like Capaldi but this is the first episode of his I've really liked. It must be tempting for the writers to replicate something like Blink, but I was glad to see Moffat pulled it off without being derivative. And I think my heart jumped when we saw the War Doctor and realized it was the barn that he was going to set off The Moment in. Despite having an amount of screentime on par with McGann, I have an unhealthy mancrush on John Hurt's Doctor. Seeing him on screen in The Day of the Doctor was the first time I've ever been tempted to cosplay a Doctor and if I can find the right venue, I just might do it.

Again, this really seems like Moffat and Capaldi are finding their feet with this episode and I hope we have a nice run of episodes with our Scottish complainer.

I'm sure I'll remember as soon as someone reminds me, but when did we see the First Doctor?

Ah ... I assumed you were referring to a Hartnell (or Hartnell look-alike) cameo.
