I mean, this books and other random stories told to make a buck need a time spot to fit into otherwise people start complaining on when that expanded non-tv stuff happens.

That idea has always been there. The Doctor has always dropped hints about meeting historical figures and having been to places we haven't seen. In "Face of Evil" the fourth Doctor was shown to have been to Leela's homeworld long enough ago to have forgotten being there.

I also hate the idea of centuries passing for the Doctor between scenes, which 11 did twice.

I am of the mind that the Doctor's age should never be explicitly mentioned, and we should only know is that he is very old and long-lived. He won't tell us what his name is; he shouldn't tell us he's 909 years old, either.
Almost missed that once, like, wait, he was 909 and then 1200 plus and now over 2000 because of all that time he spent on that planet.

Same here. They already feel so overused and I honestly haven't been a fan since their first appearance.

I think they were good when first introduced as part of the ragtag army The Doctor assembled. However, they've appeared in 3 of the last 12 episodes (counting specials), so I could see how some could think they've been overused recently.

Not only that, but not a single companion from Davies' run has appeared since Moffat took over, so continually using that particular group makes the universe feel particularly small.

Ummm, Rose appeared...or are you not counting her because it wasn't actually Rose? But Billie Piper did return at least.

I'm ticked this week because we now have to refer to Steven Moffat as an "Emmy Award-winning writer."

Here's hoping that with all the introductory stuff out of the way, we can get some good old fashioned DW fun.

Well, I enjoyed this one a bit more than last week. Next week looks like it will be fun.

I loved this one. Best Dalek episode since "Dalek". Capaldi's more gruff than he was in Deep Breath, but his compassion still showed through in the end. Excellent adventure.

Re: Doctor Who (S8E02) -- “Into The Dalek” -- 8/30/14

I thought this was a step down from last week. Next week's doesn't look too swift either but we'll see. I was tuning out half way through, just waiting for all the explosions and shouts of "Exterminate!" to finish. I found it bizarre how Clara was so chipper throughout and just minutes after people are disintegrated she goes along on her date without a moments pause. For a miniaturization story I found it dull and the inside of the Dalek underwhelming.

Gee I thought it was really good. Some nice lines for Capaldi. And what supermallet said.

Am I the only one having some difficulty understanding Capaldi's accent?

I question the sound mix on the show because there are lines of dialogue that get lost under music and I've noticed it on different TVs and on my laptop.

I've heard a few people complaining about the sound mix. I thought I was just having trouble with the fast talking accents (not just Capaldi) since I'm listening to it on a 5.1 system.

At one point they are taking the tires off one car and putting them on another. Why didn't that work? I don't remember them going back to that.

I do okay however sometimes I kind of sigh when I hear there is an episode about them. They are suppose to be all gone several times over yet they continue to return.

I really didn't care for his dismissal of soldier lady at the end. She clearly wanted to come along and change, but he was all "Nope, you're a solider" and dismissed her. What's that about? He worked with soldiers (UNIT) for an entire generation. Had one as a freaking companion at one point (Harry).

Re: Doctor Who (S8E02) -- “Into The Dalek” -- 8/30/14

Well, this was better than last week's episode, but not much.

Again, no fault of Capaldi...he's just being given really lackluster stories so far (not sure next week will be much better). This one reminded me way too much of Chris Eccleston's "Dalek" episode.
