Well, I was impressed that they actually did the amputation correctly. Oddly, in the past couple of months I've seen 3-4 movies and TV shows that did amputations, and in all of them characters just picked up the saw and started cutting. In real life, amputations were done like they did in this episode: use a knife to cut through the flesh, then use the saw only for cutting through bone. A good doctor could do the entire procedure in something like 90 seconds.

I also liked Durant's deadpan delivery of "this is going to hurt like hell".

If this is indeed a creative decision, I wish they would have shot their allotted two episodes with Common and left them for the tail end of season 5. That way we might have gotten a better finale for Elam than Bear Killer.

It's a financial decision by AMC. Anson Mount would have demanded a much higher salary to continue after the fifth season.

How much does he make on this show?

I don't know how much leeway he would have to demand a higher paying contract. He hasn't exactly blown up Hollywood or anything.

Yeah, aside from minor roles in Safe and Non-Stop he's hardly an A-lister. Very good actor and I hope he gets more work but I doubt he'd have AMC's nuts in a vice. And even if he demanded a higher salary, I doubt it'd be enough to pull the plug on such a highly rated show.

My only guess is that AMC has a spin off in the works (that they'd own outright) and they'll rehire most of the cast.

So much for Mickey's posturing.

:rip: Ruth. :(

Doesn't he get a producer credit now? So he's probably maxed out his salary from the show.

The scene with Ruth was just... something. Very well done TV.

Not if they keep killing them off.

it still boggles my mind that Bohannon was in that shitty movie Crossroads with Britney Spears. LOL.

Well, that was sad. Poor Ruth. It was frustrating that she refused to accept a pardon.

Another oddly handled arc for a long-time character. Expect to get killed if your contract is coming due.

I saw it as the show is only getting one last season. Sure they'll kill off many of the cast before series is over.
I was hoping for a different outcome for Ruth but you could see she wasn't going to let up.
I know this sounds weird, but it was kinda hot hearing her say 'shit' :eyebrow:

They kill off so many characters on this show yet Jebediah Swede still lives.

Yeah, that hanging scene was brutal and incredibly well done, esp. when they cut to her POV inside the hood. Real haunting stuff, and this show has really, really grown on me. I've liked it all along, but it just keeps better. Looking forward to the finale (hope it's better than last season's).

Another great episode despite the end result. :( I enjoyed this going away episode a lot more than Elams. I was wondering how they would handle the hanging and like uteotw, thought it was well done.

Same here. I was hoping one of two things would happen.

1) After having the bag placed on her head I was hoping she would change her mind and plead for the pardon.

2) Bohannon would show up at the last moment(like he did) and shoot the rope and save her(which he did not).

But I knew neither would happen as it would not make sense to give Ruth 1+ episodes only to undo it by not killing her off.

Everything Bohannan loves dies or leaves. The railroad will be finished soon. What will be his purpose?

Finding that last surviving member of the group that killed his wife and son.

Solid finale. Nothing exciting happened (that doesn't mean it was boring either). All the story lines for the final season were set up nicely.

Every other cast member dies around him as the Swede remains. I guess Roth won't be on the next season.

I enjoyed the season finale, though the episode just before it had more impact.

Bet you the Swede makes it through another season. The writers are cruel in that regard.

Isn't this the final season? Or will there be a season 6?

It's final season but they are splitting it up. Episode 7 ends on Aug. 29 Episode 8 picks up sometime in 2016 ... weird, I know.
