Prison Break has been disappointing, IMO. It's half hokey and half ridiculous.

Quantico renewed for a third season even though no one is watching.
This one really makes no sense. If any show should have been a one and done, it was Quantico.

Re: The One and Only TV FAQ Thread Plus Renewal and Cancellation News

Some shows are renewed repeatedly just because a network executive loves it and doesn't really care about ratings for that slot. Going off rumors, a couple of CBS shows kept getting renewed because Les Moonves' wife loved watching them.

Back in the dark ages, Gilligan's Island was canceled because it was going to somehow interfere with Gunsmoke and the executive's wife didn't want it moved.

Re: The One and Only TV FAQ Thread Plus Renewal and Cancellation News

Supposedly Fox cancelled the drama Class of '96 because 90210 decided to graduate the high schoolers and put them in college, and Fox didn't want two college shows on at the same time. They were virtually nothing alike, but...

Based on my tastes I'm surprised Quantico was renewed too. I thought even Notorious was better, and probably Conviction, but Quantico possibly had better ratings.

This was from late last year. Unsurprising, all of these got renewed (Timeless was the only actual cancellation, temporary as it was.)

With the widespread decline in ratings, networks go after smaller and smaller demos.

Doubt on CBS cancelled after 2 episodes. Didn't even want to waste my time with it and knew no one would watch it here. So didn't even bother making a thread.
Looks like a burn off begins Sat night with ep 3

Chuck Lorre thinks season 12 could be the final season of The Big Bang Theory.

Show costs around $10M per episode to make.

This must be about more than ratings. Somebody at Syfy must not like the show or one of the major backers (like Space) dropped out. According to Joseph Mallozzi's blog post on August 28:
Quote:
Once again, Dark Matter finishes the week as SYFY’s most-watched show in overnight viewers – and those numbers will no doubt see huge gains once our consistently-strong delayed viewing stats come in.

To put those ratings in perspective – while most broadcast shows have seen an average 25% decline in viewership between seasons, Dark Matter retained over 90% of its overnight audience.

Meanwhile, as mentioned above, our time-delayed numbers (those +3’s and +7’s broadcasters are shifting focus to) put us at the top of cable programs when it comes to percentage gains in key demos and overall viewers.

Re: The One and Only TV FAQ Thread Plus Renewal and Cancellation News

Fuck, that sucks about Dark Matter. It's the perfect summer science fiction show.

and Killjoys got renewed for 2 final seasons.

http://www.spoilertv.com/2017/09/kil...5th-final.html

That makes no sense. Why give Killjoys a chance to wrap up and not Dark Matter?

Re: The One and Only TV FAQ Thread Plus Renewal and Cancellation News

Netflix has the streaming rights to Dark Matter. I wonder if this show would be cost efficient enough for them to pick it up? I mean it's a Canadian produced science fiction show done mostly on green screen and sound stages.

It makes even less sense when you realize that Killjoys just had a disastrous third season that made me quit watching it.

That idea is being bandied about by the fan community as well - see - http://cartermatt.com/265864/dark-ma...orm-save-show/ and the applicable hashtag - #NetflixSaveDarkMatter
