Re: Fargo (FX) -- Season 2 News, Rumors, Castings
Patrick Wilson, Ted Danson and Jean Smart will star in the second chapter of “Fargo,” slated to premiere next fall on FX.
Wilson will star as Lou Solverson, who is described as a young clean-cut Minnesota State Patrolman, four years back from Vietnam, where he served in the Navy. Danson will play Hank Larsson, Lou’s father-in-law and the Sheriff of Rock County, Minnesota. Smart will play Floyd Gerhardt, the matriarch of the Gerhardt crime family in the new episodes, which are set in 1979 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Luverne, Minnesota. Together, Lou and Hank will investigate a case involving a local crime gang and a major Mob syndicate.
The three actors join Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons, who were previously announced as cast members of the 10-episode miniseries, which racked up five Golden Globe nominations for its debut installment, starring Billy Bob Thornton and Martin Freeman.
Nick Offerman, Brad Garrett, Kieran Culkin, Bokeem Woodbine, Jeffrey Donovan and Angus Sampson will all appear in recurring roles.
Showrunner/writer Noah Hawley, Warren Littlefield, John Cameron, Joel and Ethan Coen all return as exec producers for the second installment. “Fargo” is produced by MGM Television and FX Productions, with MGM Television serving as the lead studio.
Production will begin in Calgary on January 19.
Wilson is repped by CAA and Anonymous Content; Danson by WME and Industry Entertainment; and Smart is represented by WME and Untitled Entertainment.

Wow. Good cast. This will be like the 8th show I like to feature Danson in a recurring role.
Patrick Wilson was the actor who played the rich older guy Lena Dunhan shacked up for a week in the bottle episode of Girls, right?

Patrick Wilson was on The Conjuring and both Insidious movies. He was on that short lived CBS show "A Gifted Man" as well.

Yeah. Never saw any of those things. I heard his name bantered about after that episode of Girls aired and it seemed like I should have known who he was, but checking his IMDB page at the time, that was all I knew of his work.

Hmmm. Surprised you never saw Watchmen, Hard Candy or Little Children. I feel bad for both him and you that the episode of Girls is the first thing to come to mind.

I saw Watchmen. He was Nightowl? Didn't realize that. Didn't see those other ones though.
edit : He was also Raoul in the forgettable film version of "Phantom of the Opera". Saw that as well. Still not too familiar to me.
I think I mentioned previously that I sort of hate that this will be a prequel. A lot of the tension is gone since we know that no matter what Lou survives this -- and gets injured in the process of the case. It was so obvious that they were going with this story for S2 -- no other reason for Keith Carridine to go into so much detail about the old case that had almost nothing to do with the crimes we were following in the Season One story. Wish they would have picked a different story for this one.

Cristin Milioti from How I Met Your Mother and A to Z has joined the cast of Fargo.
The former How I Met Your Mother star will appear in the second season of Fargo, our sister site Deadline reports, playing Betsy, the wife of State Police Officer Lou Solverson (Patrick Wilson) and the daughter of Rock County Sheriff Hank Larsson (Ted Danson). Tougher than she might appear, Betsy is said to be able to “clean a gun as well as the gutters.”
As previously reported, Fargo‘s second season will follow another “true crime” case, this time set in both Sioux Falls, S.D., and Luverne, Minn., in 1979. Additional Season 2 cast members include Jean Smart (Designing Women) and Michael Hogan (Battlestar Galactica).

Awesome. I really like her. Don't like her chances of surviving to the end of the season though.

Re: Fargo (FX) -- Season 2 News, Rumors, Castings
Bruce Campbell as Ronald Reagan?! Oh, you betcha.
The Burn Notice vet has been cast as a pre-POTUS Reagan in Fargo‘s forthcoming second season, TVLine has learned exclusively.
Taking place in the late 1970s, Season 2 — a prequel to Season 1 that stars Patrick Wilson as a younger version of Keith Carradine’s Lou Solverson — is set against “the cultural transformation that was going on at that time,” as well as Reagan’s first campaign for President of the United States, previewed FX Networks CEO John Landgraf back in January. “He’s on his first campaign [and he] makes a swing through Fargo. Some of the characters have some interactions with him. And some of his movies are also a part of the show.”
It’s unclear if one of those folks interacting with Campbell’s Gipper will be former Burn Notice co-star Jeffrey Donovan, who is set to recur in Fargo‘s second season.
Campbell, who recently signed on to reprise his role as Ash in Starz’ 10-episode Ash Vs. Evil Dead series, will appear in one episode.
Fun fact: Campbell made an unbilled cameo in the big-screen Fargo. In the kidnappers’ cabin, he can be briefly seen on the TV.

Yeah, I am too...given what we know about Season 2 of both shows, Fargo seems like it's doing something fresh and exciting, while True Detective seems like it's turning into just another cop drama.
