I thought this was an incredibly dull episode. It picked up a little bit of steam towards the end, but it was predictable.

So far I think its enjoyable, but clearly not what I was expecting since they initially announced the show for development. I really think they need better writing.

I'm waiting for Blade to show up to deal with these Reapers and take out Nomak!

It's interesting so far... tho it does have that Blade 2 familiarity.

Thought it was an interesting episode, and really enjoyed the last 15 minutes or so.

I am finding the human element, aka divorces and AA, to be kind of dull, all things considered.

Really boring episode. Did not need to spend all that time on the divorce, the AA meeting, the van driver and his mama, etc.

And what's with the flight survivors saying "We're fine--let us go" while they have bloody eyes and ashen skin?

Why the hell are we spending all this time on the divorce and AA aspect?

This show asks you to accept some really dumb things. 206 people mysteriously die on a plane and no one notices the morgue is in shambles and the sole coroner is missing until the two people who have been taken off the case decide to see what's up?

I get that to some extent; they're scared and want to go home. What I do not get, however, is why CDC professionals don't think bleeding eyeballs are anything to, you know, be a little concerned about?

Ah, sex scenes on basic cable. Bad cutting and pseudo-nudity.

GDT didn't direct this episode, but the licking the blood off the floor bit was straight out of Chronos.

They don't seem scared. 2 of them are already counting their money from a civil suit.

Forty-five minutes of filler already in the second episode does not bode well for this series. If you pay attention, it wasn't even good pseudo-nudity as one of the women was wearing a flesh-colored suit to fake it. They apparently did not get the same memo as the producers on Married and You're The Worst.

I am surprised FX let this second episode make it to air without substantial changes. Can someone kill off his son already? The only thing from this episode that should have been kept intact were the scenes with the older gentlemen.

The entertainment industry obsessively panders to women. That's why you have children as regular characters in shows where they have no business being and add nothing to the story (The Strain, Major Crimes/The Closer).

The AA meeting bit is another obnoxious meme in the entertainment industry. The hero must always have a backstory of "issues", be they addiction or far too often for female characters, having been raped. We can't be allowed to take the character as they are.

To be fair, most of this stuff existed in the books long before the show. And the purpose for his son in the third book goes a fairly dark place. A big problem for me is that a lot of the characters' backstory simply delivered by the third-person narrator in the books is being out into the characters' mouths in clunky ways (like the AA meeting) so they can clumsily articulate things they shouldn't have to say out loud.

I got the impression that the old man may regret the bargain he has struck.

I agree.

It doesn't change the fact that a lot of this comes off as more hokey than scary. The old Nazi comes off as a mustache twirling stereotype more so than some sort of hybrid threat.

Then you have a typical gangbanger thug and a WASP-y family in the midst of a divorce. It's riddled with cliches and really rough dialogue.

I really do blame the writing more than other things right now. Maybe its the source material but its not translating well on screen.

Less is more would have been a great idea for the Latino thug's dialogue. Let him convey his street toughness and rough background through posture and facial expressions instead of the inane dialogue they've given him. I also think the female super-lawyer is a terribly cliched character that could prove annoying.

It was like the opposite of the first episode. This second episode showed great improvements in both the dialog and the acting, but it was really dull and slow. Now if they can just take the best parts of both, I think they can have a good show.

This seems like it's gonna be a hard show for me to watch week after week. Along with True Blood and the Leftovers these shows just aren't that good. They need to be binge watched so you're off to the next episode and not thinking all week about all the little things about the episode you didn't like.

Decent episode, but still some awkward moments especially the scene where Eph's boss put him on temporary leave.

I'll stick with it as a huge GDT fan and a reader of the books, but unless it improves quickly, I don't see it making it past the first season.
