Not exactly a show, but the School House Rock segments.

Although Season 2 is pretty much universally loathed.

By whom? I thought it was great. If anything, I think season 5 is probably the weakest.

Everybody? Any time there's a Wire parody/tribute, they always include a snide joke or two about Season 2.

My first thought as well. Dick Van Dyke is a national treasure and the Dick Van Dyke Show holds up exceptionally well to this very day and it appeals to virtually any demographic.

There's a dip in quality in season 2 that most people agree with but I certainly wouldn't say its "universally loathed". Most people I know like it, just don't like it as much as the other 4.

I'd say early season Simpsons are universally loved.

Agreed - Seinfeld has never appealed to me in the slightest. And I've watched more than enough episodes to "get it".

Cheers jumps to mind for me, but even there you've got the Diane/Rebecca issues.

I thought about that one, but think there's a small but passionate group that hates it, and some of them have already weighed in here.

Steve Harvey version of Family Feud. Haven't found a single person who doesn't enjoy it.

I honestly don't think such an animal exists. You name the show and somebody, or lots of somebodys, just didn't care for it.

Most definitely. I don't recall anyone ever having a negative opinion of it.

Not really fair for example to say that people who hate all sci fi shows don't like Star Trek

But if most sci fi fans hate for example Defiance, that's more valid

I would say Friends was universally loved by all who liked relationship based sitcoms
More thoughts...can a show be Universally loved' by even it's own fan base if there was a mediocre season (Friday Night Lights) or a passionately hated episode (Seinfeld finale)?

An older show like Cheers can rise above dips in quality because of nostalgia. It's not on people's radar anymore. People posting in here having not seen it are missing out.

Couple more I'll toss out; Quantum Leap and Freaks and Geeks.

Re: Shows That Are Universally Loved?

A friend of mine didn't like Freaks and Geeks at all.

Friday Night Lights is a good choice. Can't think of anyone that didn't love it.

I know a few people that didn't like it.

There isn't one episode of Seinfeld that I don't like, including the finale. But I'll agree that it's easily the most disappointing episode of the series.

Re: Shows That Are Universally Loved?

Obviously, we won't find a show that literally everyone loves, but some of the nominees seem to come pretty close; Sesame Street is such a sacred cow that even when Mr. "I'll Say Anything to Get My Name Out There" Jerry Falwell was handed the golden opportunity to attack the show for including a character with AIDS he instead praised the show for doing so.

The Simpsons is in a weird place where (nearly) everyone loves the Simpsons themselves but the show is heavily criticized.

You won't find a single that is so-called "universally loved" that DOESN'T have episodes most fans hate or seasons the fans really don't like.

It wasn't like that during the first 8 seasons, it just happens that the show is entering its 26th season and quality has been an issue once Mike Scully took over the reigns.

Unless this question is lost on me, I guess I don't think there can be an answer. Every show named so far in this thread has some detractors. I've seen people vocal on this forum that they don't even like I Love Lucy.

What about The Twilight Zone?

I didn't care for the hour-long episodes. Glad they switched back. Thirty minutes seemed just right.

Does it count if nobody has watched it?

Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood is the only possibility I can think of.

Ummm, no. Some people want it to all be about drugs, Avon and Stringer. I was not one. I thought season 2 was maybe the best one. Maybe 4. Season 5 was terrible.

I HATE the Simpsons and the show. Never found it funny. Ever.
