24: Live Another Day (S9E12) -- Series Finale -- "10:00pm to 11:00am" -- 7/14/14

I thought it rather obnoxious that she was crying over the death of Audrey, somebody she had only just met, while having no reaction whatsoever to the deaths of the two agents next to her, who she has presumably known for several years.

I'm going to bullet point my thoughts on the finale because I think that would be easier.
-Loved the action scenes in this one. This whole episode felt like it was a movie. Especially liked the raid on the ship.
-I'm not a big fan of Audrey dieing just to be used as a plot device. I've always liked Audrey but realistically she was the only character dieing who could effect the entire cast besides Heller.
-The speech by Heller at the end was pretty heartbreaking.
-Jack going postal after contemplating suicide was great. Keifer sold it really well and I enjoyed the fight scene with Han at the end. Yes the samurai sword was kinda out of place but man what a bad ass moment.
-I took Kate being upset over Audrey's death as well as her putting her badge on the table and gun to symbolize her quitting.
-I think the Jack and Chloe exchange was amazing and really sold how much they cared about each other.
-I'm actually OK with Jack being turned over to the Russians because it felt realistic. Let's be honest, Jack could never live a happy retired life being a grandfather. With all the emotional scars he has, as well as the fact that him going back on the grid will always cause someone to be looking for him the happiness ship had long sailed him by. Plus him sacrificing himself for Chloe sums up Jack's character in a nutshell. No matter the cost to himself Jack would always do what needed to be done without hesitation.
I'm going to miss 24 being gone again but we're lucky we got an amazing ending season like this. I think this was one of the best seasons of the show by far.

You'd think for the sake of having Jack keep a clear head that Kate would withhold the information about Audrey until later. She made a number of dumb decisions in that last hour. Plus why the fuck wasn't anybody even asking about Jack's whereabouts? He disappears for 12 hours and nobody wants to know what's up? Or has any questions about Cheng, since they thought he was alive at the last correspondence?

Well her own life had turned to shit in the past 6 hours or so, plus stress, I'll let it slide. And you know for storyline purposes.

To a certian point there wasn't there some level of advatange to knowing if Chen still held that card? The status and outcome of the hostage situation, good or bad, is important info to keep up to date.

I just though that in 12 hours, Jack couldn't come up with a plan for the exchange with Chloe to keep both of them safe? Seemed like he knew the meeting point after the call.

This was a good season of action television but I thought the finale was too choppy. It felt like two or three hours worth of plot in one hour. The ending was left open in case they get another season, which felt like a minor cheat.

She wasn't having emotions about Audrey, someone she barely knows. She was upset that she failed as a CIA agent to protect the Presidents daughter. I think that was one of the reasons she turned in her badge at the end.

That's true, I should expect him to be injected with the same tracking device the President had and that he passed the key on to Chloe when they had their moment and held hands as a way of saying, "come find me."

Fantastic season and fantastic finale. This season more than made up for 7 & 8 (6 just doesn't exist).
- Devane & Sutherland were amazing this season. Heller is up there with Palmer as great Presidents.
-Heller's scene at the end was heartbreaking.
- Jack contemplating a bullet speaks volumes of where his head is at after all the heartbreak over the years.
- The exchange between Jack and Chloe was touching.
- I didn't mind Audrey dying. It gave us that great moment at the end for Heller. I was never a fan of Audrey, she always annoyed me. I was a bigger fan of Renee Walker.
- I liked the down ending. A happy ending for Jack just wouldn't feel right. He sacrificed himself for Chloe... that is the appropriate scenario for Jack.
Hell yes. I think they could pull that off with Kiefer in a minor role. Plus they need to make up for how they ruined Tony's character. Rescuing Jack would definitely redeem him in my eyes.

I think Kate was broken up and ultimately decided to quit because she failed Jack.

It wasn't clear to me that Kate quit. Here's how I saw it while watching: Kate was "recalled" to Langley. That was never reversed. She was just working out this day on a provisional basis. When the case was over, she went ahead and "signed out" of the London office by turning over her badge and service revolver. At Langley, she'd be issued new credentials (and a new weapon) when she was assigned to a new field office.
Of course that's far from definitive. I'm just pointing out there's more than one way to read what happened. It's possible, but I don't see Kate quitting the CIA over what happened. That would be like Jack quitting CTU because he couldn't prevent the death of Teri. Usually these people don't quit. They're good at their jobs and they know it, even when things don't work out. They do, however, sometimes get reassigned and marginalized due to politics.

I took her crying over Audrey's death to be less about her being sad that Audrey was dead, and more shocked and depressed that the president's daughter was killed after she thought she saved her.

If they could film a series like 24 all over London it wouldn't surprise me if they couldn't do that in Moscow. A few high budget films have been filmed there in the last decade.

I know this is over-thinking it, but someone on another board thinks that Jack may have handed Chloe off some kind of device to track his whereabouts during their exchange. I mean Jack and Belcheck had enough time to implant something into him like they did earlier in the season.
Blah, you know the writers of 24 aren't that clever
BTW, I was surprised that Heller didn't ask about Jack when they were transporting Audrey's body.

Why would Jack need to hand something to Chloe at all? If there was anything worth handing off he could have left it with Belcheck who could have given it to Chloe after the exchange.

Did no one else think that Heller wasn't lamenting the fact that he soon wouldn't remember his daughter, but welcoming it instead? It seemed to me that he was saying he didn't want to deal with the pain and was looking forward to the lost memories.

Yes that's how I interpreted it but I also think that what made it so heartbreaking. It's a man welcoming a terrible disease because it will cause him to forget the pain he felt form losing his daughter that day.

24: Deadline novel by James Swallow
Release Date: August 5th
Sounds like it takes place immediately after Day 8. I'm surprised it's getting a hardcover release.

FOX CEO Peter Rice, who was one of the people that got LAD off the ground, loved the season and hopes there will be a season 10. He thinks there are still more stories left. He's the big boss and is in charge of Gary Newman and Dan Walden who were just hired as the chairmen of the FOX network. Also, Newman and Walden run 20th TV that produces 24.
This is definitely encouraging. There are some people who support the franchise still.
I also think since 24 is owned by FOX and is still popular internationally, it's a big moneymaker for them.

they should just do this as a summer season every year. next year he's in russia. then another exotic location the year after. that way, the show doesn't feel stale like it was getting toward the end of the original run. that way, they can promote it much better internationally. "Look, now we are in Russia!"
