The Bridge (S2E01) -- Season Premiere -- "Yankee" -- 7/09/14

Episode 1 / Production #201 - "Yankee" (Airs July 9, 10:00 pm e/p) - Sonya meets a man connected to her past as Marco discovers he is no longer safe in his own department. Frye & Adriana investigate the origins of the "money house." A mysterious woman crosses The Bridge into El Paso. Written by Elwood Reid; directed by Keith Gordon.

13 episode 2nd season

Worth mentioning, co-creator/showrunner Meredith Stiehm has left the show. She signed a new deal to return to Showtime and work on Homeland.

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/liv...eredith-657077

Co-creator Elwood Reid is the new sole showrunner. He was part of season 1, so it's not a drastic change. According to the story, Stiehm and Reid didn't see eye to eye on the creative direction of the show.

Season 1 was a pretty solid season overall. It lost a little steam towards the end, but overall they set up a potentially interesting new arc.

This story has been told twice already. One wonders what they didn't see eye to eye on.

IMDB - Broen
IMDB - The Tunnel

Hopefully Reid keeps it interesting and intelligent.

I'd totally forgotten this was coming back today until I saw it recording just now.

Man, Sonya has awful taste in men. Banging the brother of the dude that killed her sister. On the plus side, we got a gratuitous Diane Kruger ass shot.

to casting Franka Potente as the villain.

at her bodyguard cutting off that assistant's ear after he spilled tea on her. Holy shit, my jaw dropped when he did that.

Good start overall. All my favorites scene were the ones in Spanish with Marco at his police station and the raid in the beginning.

Season started off on a positive note last night. Nice casting choice having Potente as the new villain.

I always assume its a body double unless you see their face in the same shot. So until we get further information, that's my assumption here.

It's weird to see "Kevin" play a "normal" person.

Re: The Bridge (S2E01) -- Season Premiere -- "Yankee" -- 7/09/14

I heard rumors that season 2 is supposed to be better than season 1, but they said that about The Americans, too.

I didn't watch the Swedish/Danish version of the show, but it looks like the first season of the FX version was very, very close to the original. Are they going to make season 2 another close remake, or will the plots diverge?

The entire bank scene was awesome and not just the "finger, hand or ear?" part. From the start with "do you have your tools?" to simply closing the curtains, to the deadpan "I'm going to need that name", it was a pretty damn great intro to the villain.

Good to have this show back.

When it's an actress that has been shy about nude scenes in the past, that would make a lot of sense. But that doesn't apply to this actress in the slightest. And after comparing to the other ass shots she has done (screen grabs are easy to find), they either got the same body double EVERY time, or it's her.

It was definitely Diane Kruger. She is far from shy about her body.

OK, I'm not familiar with her previous "body" of work, so that's good to know. Maybe you guys could get jobs at the Mr. Skin laboratories. They should attempt to show her face in the same shot for doubters like myself though.

Not an celeb skin obsessive or anything. Your comment just got me thinking if maybe you were right, even though I doubted it.

And what's the point of a shot like that if the camera is pulled back far enough to show here face? I'll take what we got and ask for more.

Re: The Bridge (S2E01) -- Season Premiere -- "Yankee" -- 7/09/14

I just watched the premiere awhile ago. It was a good start and I think I will this season's villain more than last season's villains. I wish the writers would have finished the storyline with the ranch guy and the smuggled women last season. I get the feeling that Dobbs' brother will end up doing something bad to Sonya later on.

I have seen a few episodes of the original Scandinavian version. I would also want to see The Tunnel at some point.

Maybe later episodes focus on different storylines.

Don't get your hopes up.

Just so you know, I am a HUGE British TV fan, to the point where if I had to choose between British and American TV - if I could only watch one for the rest of my life - I'd probably pick British. But I think the US version of The Bridge is better. I like the actors and atmosphere much better in the British version, and to me the villain was slightly less of an "evil genius" in the British version. But I think the US version was actually localized better than the UK one.

Some of the themes in the American version - the low value of Mexican lives, the arrogance of Americans, the gun running and drug cartels - were more relevant than the more "generic" social issues addressed in the British version. In other words, the US version hits much closer to home than some of the more abstract issues in the UK one.

That's not to say it's a bad show. Clémence Poésy and Stephen Dillane have much better chemistry together IMHO. And I prefer the southern England and northern France locations over south Texas any day of the week. But it's rare than a US show is noticeably better than a British show. I guess that's maybe because it's not actually a homegrown British show?

I don't just dislike Rush, I hate them. Because of incredibly retarded Canadian content broadcast rules here in Canada, local rock stations are almost always playing Rush. But even if they weren't over-exposed like this I really and truly hate their music. I almost spat when I saw that t-shirt. (My apologies to Rush fans out there...all two of you.)

Anyone know the music they were playing in the background (the downstairs bar?) when he checks into the hotel at the end?

The rant about Rush was just a way to cement how much of a prick Daniel Frye really is.

When the credit were running at the beginning and I saw Franka Potente I got so excited. I yelled to my wife Franka Potente! She probably thought I was crazy.

But yeah, I also thought this was a great start. The previews for the season look great too.
