They just used that as an excuse. If the ratings were good they wouldn't of cancelled it.

I hadn't thought of that. It would be cool if it were true. And the raid on the compound made no fucking sense to me. It was like they were after terrorists or something. It was hard to make out but did they have letters on their backs? FBI? ATF?

Don't think ratings are the sole qualifier for HBO. There have been plenty of shows that went well past their first season before they came to a conclusion, granted almost all of them were told by the network that they were coming to an end (sometimes with a long heads-up such as The Wire and Treme, and then others not so much like Deadwood and Carnivale). None of these shows were big hits when they aired and only after-the fact did The Wire and Deadwood become a cult\critic favorite.

I really hope HBO does notice ratings fall off for this show and read the feedback online and do not extend this show. The problem for them though is that with so many of their key shows coming to an end (Boardwalk Empire, True Blood, etc.), they have a lot of holes they need to fill. This has never been a problem n the past for them but they also have never had to compete fro quality series like they do now with AMC or Showtime.

And it had Dustin Hoffman in the lead. That's one of the biggest reasons they renewed it. Nobody on this is anywhere close to that in status.

My biggest takeaway from this episode was that there was no way a police station would have that kind of massive, constantly-on toaster instead of a standard one. You see those in cafeterias, hotel buffets, etc.

I'm out of this one. Bored me senseless for 2 episodes. My wife bailed even before that - maybe I should have listened to her.

I was wondering that myself. A business would use a toaster like that, offices have regular toasters (more than one if it needed).

It was just one week.

Would have been great if that bagel was raptured not just stuck in back of the oven.

I think we're eventually going to find a giant toaster with 2% of the world's population jammed up in the back.

Sundays cable ratings finally released.

1.553M viewers and 0.7 for episode 2.

I don't know what HBO is expecting from this series, so I can't really comment if that's good or bad. I do know this isn't an HBO production. Warner Brothers produces this show.

It will never be a Sunday anchor show, obviously. Just hoping for the True Blood lead-in I imagine. Maybe it will get the dreaded Monday night slot the way some other series did.

It didn't lose too many from the first episode, so that's good. If it stays steady I can see it easily getting a second season. It's performing much better than stuff like Veep and it seems pretty cheap to produce. I hope we can get a season 2, so they will make their own storylines and not follow the book.

That's probably why it feels more like a network show than an HBO show.

The white coat people are the most boring on the show. Probably because they show no emotions and don't speak. I feel like it would be a better show without them. Hopefully if there is a season 2 they get rid of them or let them start speaking, because focusing so much time on them right now is really bad for the show.

One of the more ridiculous things is the use of paper for the GR to communicate. Um, tablets people!

If anything keeps me watching, it's the promise of something horrible happening to the white coat people - maybe if they all get stage 4 lung cancer and puke blood until they're dead. That would be satisfying.

It's just so dumb. Ok so they are going to do a vow of silence, but they can write on paper to each other. WTF is the point? It's just something dumb to make them seem mysterious.

Like all cults/religions - they do things that make no sense.

The Wil Wheaton show ripped this series to shreds in last night's episode.

Same here. I'll watch the rest of the series just to see how much more they choose to deviate from the book storylines.

Most of the stuff they have added in or changed hasn't impressed me. I think the biggest change made was the tone.

The book was more of a black comedy (at least to me) with plenty of moments to chuckle at the 'trials and tribulations' the characters were suffering through after the Rapture.

They seems to have made the show more focused on the drama of it all or as someone earlier said, 'Grief porn'

I don't understand what kind of audience they are shooting for with that. I just don't see a large audience tuning in for that kind of thing for more than one season.

Even the book ran its course and ended suddenly without really resolving any of the character's storylines, almost like Perrotta had had enough of the characters and just stopped.

Funny to see people annoyed at the same things I found tedious in the book like the Guily Remnant storyline.

And Justin Theroux is nothing like you imagine the character to be while reading the book. Sorry to see they felt they needed someone 'pretty' as a lead to sell the show...

Agree with all the book readers that are disappointed.

About the GR, in the book only some leaders can write in paper, the rest of the people can't even write in paper. And of course new members of the cult are not that restricted at the beginning.

Unless there turns out to be some sort of larger plot-specific reason for why they can't speak, I wish they would have just ditched that characteristic of the group. It makes an already difficult-to-watch part of the show drag on even further.

I'm watching, but have no idea why.

Maybe it's Sarah Margaret Qualley, she's kind of mesmorizing.. I get a Linda Edna Cardellini aka Lindsay Weir vibe from her.

10 eps seems perfect.
