Trey Parker and Matt Stone - basically One hit wonders

But what a hit it is !

It's only because i am watching Baseketball, hadn't seen it since 1998. I know they did Team America, all i remember from that trainwreck was 'american fuck yeah"

But haven't looked at their imdb credits, they haven't done anything else non South park

I thought they had more potential than that

Book of Mormon seems to be popular

to Desmond's defense, I don't think they have musicals down under. It's why Hugh Jackman escaped to greener pastures.

And Book of Mormon was amazing.

Book of Mormon seems to be a pretty big deal. I can't think of any other play from the last few years that has become very well known in the pop culture.

Also, South Park is a little more than a "one-hit wonder". If they only made 13 or so episodes, you could call it a fluke or something they have been coasting on. But the show's been running for 15 or so years. I think magnum opus would be a more appropriate term. Would you call Charles Shultz a "one hit wonder" because in 50 years his only success was Charlie Brown?

Doesn't anyone remember That's My Bush?

A movie version of Book of Mormon has been announced.

 Yeah, maybe a visit to imdb or Wikipedia could have cleared this up.

Btw, has anyone mentioned Book of Mormon...it's kind of a thing.

I actually think Orgasmo is pretty funny for what it is.

I was bummed when Buttmunker stopped posting threads that could be answered/refuted with a simple googling, but here comes Original Desmond to the rescue!

I don't know if I'd call P&S a "one-hit wonder." South Park seems pretty popular.

I just popped in here to say South Park is popular and so is Book of Mormon.

They're an oscar away from having an EGOT. (Won Five Emmys for South Park and a Tony and a Grammy for Mormon (which won 9)), they were nominated for an Oscar for Best Song in South Park but until Book of Mormon gets adapted into a movie, that's the most they're going to have.

America. Fuck. Yeah.

I've loved all the work they've done

Cannibal, The Musical
Orgazmo
South Park
South Park: The Movie
That's My Bush
Team America

I haven't seen Book of Mormon yet, but it's been wildly successful both financially and critically.

Just to clarify, they can't get nominated for Best Song for a Book of Mormon movie unless they add a song specifically for the film, since the Oscars require that the Best Song nominations be of songs that first appeared in the film before anywhere else.

I actually think they'd have a shot at adapated Screenplay.

It's pretty much standard practice when adapting a Broadway musical to the big screen to add in a new song for Oscar consideration.

I wish they'd change that rule so movies would stop having to add an extra "new" song just to qualify for an Oscar. It's silly. You know the voters are nominating based on the 'ineligible' songs, not because they really think the new one is "one of the years best songs".

I recently watched the Oscars from 1979 and was surprised to see they had a category for Best Adapted Score which the Broadway based films were nominated under. They should just bring that back.

What's the point of "Best Original Song" if all I have to do is drop an old Beatles tune in my film to earn an Oscar?

I know no one seems to want more categories, but why not like I suggested bring back the Best Adapted Score Oscar.

If the choice is between better musical film adaptations and the purity of the Oscars (which has long been a joke anyway) I'd rather have the movies.

Speaking of the Oscars, what the fuck was up with one of the early 80's Carson hosted ones where the camera did not show the audience AT ALL for the entire monologue?

There was no audience that year. They all boycotted to protest Jodie Foster's role in Reagan's assassination.
