Teen/Tweener Shows better now than in the 90s ?

I have to admit, i watch a few current Disney shows, Kickin It and I didn't do it

I think Leo Howard is an action star waiting to happen

Do you think the current line up of shows like the two above and all the other current disney shows are better than the 90s equivalents, mainly the Peter Engel stable lead by Saved by the Bell, California Dreams, Malibu CA etc

If anything they seem to be somewhat worse. Though I give them props for being more original now compared to then. In the 90's everything was Saved by the Bell in a different location.

It seems to me that all of today's kid shows are thinly veiled marketing machines creating the next generation pop stars.

They're pretty bad imo. There was less of a distinction between regular shows and teen/tweener shows in the 90s. Stuff like Family Matters, Clarissa Explains It All, Boy Meets World, Are You Afraid of the Dark, The Secret World of Alex Mack, The Adventures of Pete and Pete, Hey Dude, Salute Your Shorts, All That, etc; easily trump the current generation of Disney-fied ones. IMHO at least.

I thought Victorious was the type of tween/teen show that was slightly better than the 90s teen shows like Saved by the Bell. Victorious has a bit of an adult/dark comedy feel to it.

Counterpoint: All teen/tween shows have been terrible since time immemorial. You might as well count the number of angels that can dance on the head of a pin if you plan to critically analyze the differences between teen shows of this nature. Possibly the most vapid genre ever produced by Hollywood.

My niece watches Sam and Cat a lot. The writers put a very slight edge into the comedy. Or they'll reference a great filmmaker or something. If I'm not mistaken, this is because of Dan Schneider.

It's a new generation. We are different ages, if we're discussing this. It's like trying to reconnect with new Smashing Pumpkins albums. Or why I was so infatuated with The Simpsons, but now I am a casual viewer. The material is pretty much the same. It's me who changed.
