Re: True Detective (HBO) -- Season 2 News, Rumors

I'm getting sick of rumors... just announce already...

Although Rachel McAdams and Elisabeth Moss aren't out of the running yet, The Wrap has learned seven actresses will audition for HBO and creator Nic Pizzolatto this week for the female lead in the second season of HBO's True Detective.

According to the site, Rosario Dawson, Jessica Biel, Jaimie Alexander (THOR), Malin Akerman (WATCHMEN), Oona Chaplin (Game of Thrones), Kelly Reilly (FLIGHT) and Brit Marling (ANOTHER EARTH) are all being considered to play Ani Bezzerides, "a tough, no-nonsense Monterey sheriff whose troubled upbringing has driven her to gambling and alcohol." The Wrap says there are also other actresses who might be up for the role.

Of all the names listed, I'd pick 1. McAdams 2. Marling 3. Alexander

Jesus. McAdams please, just because I would love to see what she can do with a role like this.

edit: Isn't Dawson on Daredevil?

Has Justin Lin signed on to direct? It says he has in the new Bourne movie thread, but I thought that was still, like everything else about Season 2 of True Detective, just a rumor at this point.

Believe it's still a rumor... but if his Bourne movie gets bumped from 2016, like it seems like it will, he will definitely have some time freed up.

looks like Justin Lin's Bourne with Renner has been pushed back so Greengrass/Damon Bourne moves to the front.

Giving Lin time to direct season 2.

Id I were a betting man, I would bet that season 2 of "Fargo" will be better than season 2 of True Detective. Not sure they can capture the feel of TD again

I agree -- although I think both will be challenged to recapture the quality from their freshman seasons. Neither were perfect, but both were some of the best TV we've had this season.

Great. Colin F'ing Farrell...one of my LEAST favorite actors, period.

I might be making a quick exit from Season 2.

Farrell

Vince Vaughn... ehhhh... haven't seen him do any dramatic acting in a long time. I have faith that it'll work.

Isn't Vaughn like a foot taller than Farrell? Lotsa stagecraft about to happen.

Re: True Detective (HBO) -- Season 2 News, Rumors

When I saw today's casting news, I read the headline as Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn. That would've been a departure from the previous season's tone.

They could go from nominations in the drama category to ones in the comedy category. That would be crazy. Some show should try it.

Re: True Detective (HBO) -- Season 2 News, Rumors

Are they still shooting 35mm for the next season? I'm curious who'll be directing. Apparently Justin Lin? I wonder why he's suddenly doing more TV work? For HBO, it's obvious, the creative freedom seems to be pretty impressive, and now that he's off the F&F franchise, I guess he needs something.

I'd venture to say Colin is way underrated. In Bruges is brilliant and Colin was fantastic in it.

I'm the complete opposite from you. I think Vaughn is an interesting choice, I think Farrell is a horrible choice. I've never seen ONE Farrell performance I enjoyed...not even in some of the better films he's been in (which have been good despite him). I would be more happy with Will Ferrell. Or Pharrell Williams, for that matter.

I'll still give Season 2 a shot, but I'm setting my expectations low. What happened to getting two female leads, I wonder?
