Aw snap!

Great ep!

Spoiler:
... So long Meera, what a way to go.

... and about that final scene...

Spoiler:
... I guess we all knew it from the start, but if he hasn't ever lied to Lizzy, is he really who we think he is?

Haven't seen the ep yet but
Spoiler:
if you are referring to him being her father and him saying he wasn't when she asked, I think he was pulling an Obi-Wan there. "From a certain point of view". She considered the other guy her father so he was her father, not Red. What she should have asked is "Are you my biological father?" That one is probably not easy to skirt around if he doesn't lie to her.

Certainly the final reveal leads us to believe one thing, but it's not conclusive. He could have also been in the fire her father died in. Or he could have been burned somewhere else.

As for, "I'll never lie to you," it doesn't tell us much. After all, if it isn't true, there's no real problem with Red saying it.

I'm still in the same place I've always been... it looks like he is but he says he isn't. For a minute there I thought we were going to get a little justification for Red's statement having to do with his thinking that, "In that fire, the person I was died and I became someone else... someone new. I had no past and no family." I don't really get hung up on the is he/isn't he, though.

I almost felt I missed part of the episode as I have no idea how the FBI guy survived being strangled from behind in the car. That should have been a certain kill. I did see his fingers trying to get between the strangling instrument and his neck, but still.

The twist about the guy not being Berlin wasn't all that surprising due to all the big clues they gave, but I didn't expect it to be the guy in the hospital until it was revealed. I guess I should have known since it was a recognizable actor playing Berlin.

Red's torture scene was great though.

This show is still bad at character development as I had no sad feelings about Meera getting killed. Sure it's only been one season, but just like Ressler's girlfriend getting killed, I just wasn't sad about it.

The Berlin twist was so "Usual Suspects" inspired it was easy to see coming, plus Peter Stormare is too big for that small of a throw away role.

Red had a picture of Berlin's daughter, so it is possible that Berlin is actually her father, but it still seems Red is really her father, but considers himself dead.

Yes, when I saw that the "guard" in the hospital was Abruzzi it was a dead give away who he really is.

Also not shocked that "Tom Keen" somehow slithers away from this. Why the fuck is she still calling herself Elizabeth "Keen" anyway? -ohbfrank-

Despite some missteps this has been a satisfying first season. There were some great villains that was nabbed along the overall major arc. Some of them may even recur in the future. It will also be interesting to see where they go with this international consortium that Fitch is in which Red has got dirt on.

:rip: Meera

and Tom somehow slips away go figure.

Pretty satisfying end to the first season. I agree that the show needs to work on character development besides Red and Lizzie. While Meera's death was surprising, I wasn't really attached to her emotionally.

Cool that "Berlin" will be a recurring character. I read on TV Guide, the producers are hoping to make him a season long villain next season.

Cool reveal with the burn marks. While it may not be 100% certain he's her father, looks like Red was at the fire. He probably the one that saved Lizzie, hence their connection.

Yay, a guarantee to have more Stormare!

yeah, once they showed it was Stormare, I pretty much figured he was Berlin. not a terribly satisfying episode because it didn't really wrap up anything or give us any new information.

Re: The Blacklist -- Season Finale -- "Berlin: Conclusion" -- 5/12/14

I'm thinking that Berlin is her father and maybe Red was the one sending parts to him to make him think his daughter was dead so he could get something out of Berlin and would allow Sam to take her without fear of Berlin finding them. Now that Berlin has found that she is alive, he is getting revenge and hired Tom to make sure she didn't get hurt in the middle of all of it. Not that writers wouldn't lie but I thought they said at a press event that Red was not the father unless like someone mentioned before he may not be the father that raised her but the biological father.

It gave us Liz not only not following through on her promise to Red to "take care of" a shot and dying Tom, but trying to stop his bleeding... and ultimately letting him escape. In other words, she's a better FBI agent than ever.

It also gave us Red in Jack Bauer mode. Except I don't really like Red in Jack Bauer mode. I see him as more a mover and shaker with people to do his biding, not an action figure.

We also learned if you're ever in a car being strangled from behind by rope/wire/whatever, you can survive. I'm not sure how exactly as I have no memory of actually seeing that, but baby steps. I'll just kick the windshield first and maybe the rest will become obvious while I'm choking. At least I now know it can be done. BTW, has anyone over 6 feet ever tried kicking a front windshield while sitting in a front seat? It doesn't exactly flow.

It had good moments, too, though. As usual, they center around Red. I enjoyed seeing Red willing to go down in order to connect with and protect Liz. As much as she doesn't like him, it'd be difficult for her to ignore how committed he is to her.

I'm thinking that is probably true, except for the fact that Red should be able to figure it out. Still seems to care for her more than just someone he saved. He's not old enough to be her grandfather.

Re: The Blacklist -- Season Finale -- "Berlin: Conclusion" -- 5/12/14

For a season that had met every expectation, this season finale was a bit of a letdown. They basically gave away Berlin's identity by casting such a recognizable actor in a supposedly throwaway role. As I have predicted for much of the season, Elizabeth's supposed husband didn't live to see another season.

I guess the sudden death for Meera was meant to be shocking but I don't think anyone considered her an integral part of the series, she was ripe to get bumped off.

They already gave it away in last week's episode: the end credits had Peter Stormare at the top as (paraphrasing) "Covered Guy".

I just spent most of this ep waiting for "When is Peter Stormare showing up?" :D

Why do so many people think Tom is alive? He took three shots to the stomach from Elizabeth. I'd say he is probably dead.

Anyway, I enjoyed the finale since it furthered the plot on why Berlin was chasing after Red.

Standard TV trope: if you don't see the body, they aren't dead.

I would consider it a massive cheat if he somehow survives getting shot. Unless they want to introduce clones into the series ala Orphan Black.

As soon as I saw his name in the opening credits I knew he would be Berlin. Other than that, fun ep!

When I first heard that "he cut off his hand" I assumed that he cut off his own hand, it was only when they showed the "guard" without a hand that I thought I was mistaken.

They should at least have had "Berlin" put up more of a fight; even without the casting, it became obvious there was no way he was the big bad (or I would have stopped watching the show, I think). I feel like they skipped a bunch of steps; for instance, the strangler/killer was also caught a little too conveniently. Why even bother with the whole "we're capturing Red" part anyway? He could have met Hawkeye in a different scene.

I was hoping they'd kill off Harold, too, but I'm sure he and Tom will make the same superhuman Wolverine type miraculous recovery that Ressler has had with his fucked up leg.

He could've been wearing a vest, right? RIGHT?!? :)

Didn't Lizzie say Tom was dead. That he whispered to her just before he died.

If we start believing everything we see/hear on The Blacklist we are indeed in trouble. While fun - the whole show is pretty goofy.

Plus, if the writers want Tom alive, he'll be alive. Somehow. A vest, experimental surgery, a twin, a robot, etc....

When the authorities got there later wasn't Tom gone with just blood left on the floor where he was?
