I really enjoyed this premiere. It really felt like classic 24 and it felt like it never left the air. It's just so good to have Jack Bauer back.

Pretty good stuff.
I wonder when they will start skipping time.
I hope they manage to iron out some of the tropes of moles and misdirection. Hopefully the limited episodes will force that. Either the military lawyer is in on it, or he's just another short sighted character who can't think for themself - "Our systems could never be compromised. You did it!"

Jack Bauer may be a badass, but to me it really did require a suspension of disbelief to watch him take down Chris Partlow like that.
There were so many familiar tropes in this episode it was like everything I liked and disliked about 24 all in one two hour block.

Well, with Gotham being on Fox next season, they can do a crossover for sweeps month!
Great having 24 back. I love that they still have the same digital clock with the electronic tick-tock and the multiple camera shots on screen simultaneously. It's the little things, ya know?

I thought it was awesome. Great to have Jack back again, even if it's only for 12 episodes. The smaller season might work out better too, less filler. I did chuckle how no one could break him on the polygraph until the blonde walked in and said something to him. You would think someone that highly trained wouldn't let something like that slip out.
I wish I didn't click on that. Makes sense given the situation if true.

But the ridiculousness and suspension of disbelief have ALWAYS been part of 24...that's what makes the show so fun. If our weekly threads are going to just nitpick all the plot flaws, we're going to have some really long threads. Yeah, we love to talk about them, but that's always been part of the show's appeal.

Clearly, if Jack's plan was to be captured by the CIA to get inside and save Chloe, why go through that deliberate chase instead of just staying in his sleeping bag and let them get him by surprise while he's "sleeping?" Instead, he avoids being shot (potentially being KILLED - which would be a major game-changer), confronts and fights the agents, and makes an obviously poor choice in not going to the roof to escape, which was EASILY picked up by an astute CIA agent who knows Jack would not make such a rookie mistake. If he just pretended he was asleep, the CIA could marvel at how well they planned his arrest/capture and his moves would go unscrutinized, even the self-planted lead that led to his capture.
But of course, this would be BORING 24, so let's not nit-pick it. Leave my 24 alone!

Remember, for those of you who somehow missed this or forgot to record it, it re-airs Friday at 8pm. Every episode will re-air Fridays
Also, double check your DVRs for episode 3 on Monday. It may not be set to record it. The wrong air date was sent and it's listed as a repeat.

So question, I've never watched 24 except for the odd episode here and there but have always meant to get to it. Is this season stand alone enough that I could watch it or should I just start from the beginning?

it's stand alone in the seasons, but major plot points carry over. like you won't understand why jack bauer is where he is without watching the show all the way through.

BTW, it re-airs tonight at 8pm
However, as Deftones said, you're going to miss alot of character development and backstory about Jack and his motives.
