Probably a stretch, but Bob Odenkirk's character mentioned the Knutsens at one point. In Big Lebowski Knutsen is Bunny Lebowski's real last name.

I can't wait until Buzzfeed compiles a list of every Coen easter egg through out the season.

Actually, the feeling I got was that Verne was closer to the Marge Gunderson (Frances McDormand) character. Like her, he was the police chief... was actually very smart and observant, was well respected and was nice to the people under him. They essentially made Marge a man and made his wife pregnant. The Molly character seems to be a different character - who just happens to be smart and observant as well.

Watched the pilot. I'm not feeling it. Feels like an amature theater production of the film. The female lead can't do the accent right. Feels more like over zealous Coen bros fan service than the work of a genuine creative talent.

The accents are all completely fake anyway, so there's no "right" or "wrong".

Yep, still great, but felt like it was over so quickly.

Only gripe I have is that the ice auger hole was much bigger than the actual auger. When I first saw the auger, I anticipated the guy getting stuck in the hole.

I had the impression he made a bigger hole, even though the auger wasn't wide enough; he just placed it more than once, and cut those parts for time.

I don't think you can do that. Especially with ice. Unless you have a very soft material, the bit just slides into the original hole. The finished hole was also perfectly round.

You are correct sir. The hole did not match the auger. It took me a bit out of the moment as well. Besides, having to really work to stuff the guy through the hole would have made it a better scene to boot.

You don't hear those sort of accents in Fargo (well, maybe a hint), but in Bemidji (where the show is supposed to be taking place) and the remoter parts of northern Minnesota (Brainerd on up) you will hear the version the shows accents are based on.

So far this really does walk a tightrope between excellence and being just a little too much like the film. I am hoping that is just what the show needs to do in its first season and it can grow toward excellence and a bit away from being too much like the film in future seasons. How are the ratings?

Did anyone else's Directv recording stop abruptly, even though there was still recorded time left on the time line?

Similar thing happened with the Justified finale.

I got the full DirectTV recording (first showing).

It's only one season.

I thought it was going to be an anthology show where the second season was a new group of characters?

I absolutely loved the 2nd episode --- moreso than the Pilot. Bob Odenkirk is great but the actor that plays Nigel is top notch.

CLASSIC! One of my favorite clips of all time (as a former Minnesotan). "I've been to Fargo in the hospital..."

I had heard they were writing the show in such a way that doing exactly that would make sense assuming the show was received well enough to warrant it.

I'm not sure how they continue to pull off a storyline of "odd" murders in a small town. This show is close enough to the movie that it's kind of distracting... but the show is so well done I can overlook the plot similarities.

Maybe rename the town to Smallville? ;)
(I never watched the show, but from what I hear - it seems like way too many things were happening for a town so small).

That's how I feel about Longmire...that county is the per capita murder capital of the world!
