Re: TURN -- "Mercy Moment Murder Measure" -- 5/18/14
I just couldn't get into it either - and I love the time period, too. I did at least give it more of a chance than Low Winter Sun, whose previews and trailers turned me off without ever watching a second.
That said, this show looked like it was probably going to be a stinker from day one. The promotional campaign was largely vague and generic, absent scenes or characters or plotlines, and instead "New AMC drama set during revolutionary war involving spies and turncoats!"
Hell, come on, you can see some AMC or studio execs just salivating at that premise - greenlighting it without seeing a script, dailies, or pilot. "Unique, unique, unique! You know Mad Men? Yeah, go back another two centuries! You know Game of Thrones intrigue and betrayal? Yeah, this crap really happened!"
It'd be easy to say AMC looks to be in trouble, what with Breaking Bad over, Mad Men soon, The Killing now... whatever/wherever. But I really, genuinely believe Halt and Catch Fire is going to be the Next Big Thing™. It looks phenomenal, it's got one hell of an intriguing premise, is something that hasn't been done yet (computer wars in the 80s), and looks like it's of considerable quality. If I could invest in a TV show like corporate stock, I'd be betting big on Halt…
AMC had best hope that's the case at least, because Turn certainly isn't the Next Big Thing™ for them.

I missed the first 2 eps of Turn and caught 103. It was OK. I was playing catchup, so that may have been part of it. WTF is it SO DARK. It's hard to tell what's going on. Why don't they light like Breaking Bad or something like that. Some movies do that as well. You can't tell WTF is going on except for the grunts.

I don't anticipate a second season. I enjoyed this for what it was, but it was never must-see-TV for me.
When does Hell on Wheels come back? Besides TWD that the only AMC show worth watching.

I recorded the series but haven't watched a single episode. There's just too much on my plate at the moment.

Time to start marinating it.
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/0VJian_Nh9M" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Renewed for a second season.

Will premiere in Spring 2015.
I watched only 3 episodes, but may try to give it another go since its coming back. But, I liked The Musketeers was so much better. That's how you do a period drama, especially in this time period.

Turn will re-air Saturdays in August with Hell on Wheels when that returns. I'll try to give it another go then.

I made it about half way through and then slacked off. I really enjoyed what I had seen, but decided I would wait and either binge-watch it at some point or wait for when it hits streaming or disc. I only get AMC in SD and much of this series was too dark to see very well.

Just finished this up today. While I wouldn't call it appointment television, I felt that the show did get better as the season went along, and I certainly think there is enough in the real life history for the show to continue to grow.
Read an interview with the showrunner that indicated they hadn't yet worked on casting Benedict Arnold for season two. Since John Andre is already on the show, that's a real life story worth telling.

TURN: Washington's Spies (AMC) -- Re-airs on Saturdays starting 8/2/14
FYI, AMC is re-airing the entire 1st season of TURN starting tonight after Hell on Wheels. 1 episode per week. If you missed it, were too lazy to keep up with it, or bailed on it because you thought it was DOA, here's your chance to try again.
AMC renewed this for a 2nd season for Spring 2015.

Also, strangely, AMC re-named the show. It's now called TURN: Washington's Spies. So, you will need to set a new season pass (all episodes) to get this.
If you still have too many shows to catch up on and this never really interested you enough to watch it, then okay move on.
Since it's coming back in the Spring, I'm giving it another go and starting from the beginning again. I stopped after episode 3. If you feel like talking about it, then here's your thread.

TURN: Washington's Spies (AMC) - Season 2 Discussion Thread - Premieres 4/13/15
AMC announced today that the network's historical spy drama "TURN: Washington's Spies" will shift to Monday nights for its second season and premiere on Monday, April 13 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT with a special two-hour episode. The series will then move to Monday at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT for the remainder of the season. The move continues the network's original programming expansion into Monday nights that began earlier this month with the premiere of "Better Call Saul." An AMC Studios production, "TURN: Washington's Spies" stars Jamie Bell (Flags of Our Fathers, Snowpiercer, the upcoming Fantastic Four) as Abraham Woodhull, a farmer living in British-occupied Long Island during the Revolutionary War, who bands together with a disparate group of childhood friends to form the Culper Ring - America's first spy ring. Season two of "TURN: Washington's Spies" moves deeper into the battles waged by soldiers and civilians alike in the pursuit of freedom, and the sacrifices they're willing to make to secure it. As Abe becomes more committed to the Culper Ring activities, George Washington (Ian Kahn) battles both personal demons and betrayal from within his ranks that threaten not only his leadership but the fate of the revolution. As the colonies struggle to become a nation, the outcome of the revolution will hinge on alliances both on and off the battlefield.
10 episode second season. Premiere is the first 2 episodes.

If you have Turn saved in your season passes from 2014, you will need to re-set it now with the title change.
I know this show wasn't exactly a draw here last Spring, but I'm ready to give it another go.

Not much action at all on the forum last year. I gave it a few episodes, but it's just not something I'm interested in watching a weekly series of.

Season 1 is on Netflix. It's a real slow burner and I can see why no one really has anything to say about it. Plus, last year it aired on Sunday's against Game of Thrones and of course we all know a Revolutionary War period drama ain't getting priority over the most popular premium fantasy show ever.

Casually watching the season 1 marathon on AMC right now. Kinda slow, but the commercials make it look so epic. I'll watch the season opener tonight and see if I really get hooked.
