I'm a Letterman fan, but that was a cringeworthy interview, there was nothing harmless about George W. Bush. The guy started an illegal war that destabilized an entire region. It's disgusting how liberals are normalizing that creep. I'm sure if he was still hosting the Late Show, his monologue would be nothing but Trump, Russia, Trump, Russia, like everybody else. Letterman hosted Obama a handful of times and always kissed his ass, never once taking him to task about his atrocities and general incompetence. So I guess it is for the best Letterman retired when he did.

No. Haven't gotten around to it yet. I guess he addressed my question, then.

I think Colbert is taking care of the current Trump administration situation formidably.

Dave is enjoying his retirement.

It's a late night talk show. Not a political crossfire show. It's not the job of late night hosts to rake their guests over the coals.

I agree as Dave has free will to give his honest opinion now.

As far as crossfire, Bill Maher is feeding with that slot.

Colbert should thank him since bashing Trump is the only reason he is beating Fallon right now and once Trump leaves he will have nothing to fall back on.

He'll be in his early sixties at that point and may want to retire anyway.

If the trend continues Trump will probably get two terms like Clinton, W, and Obama did so Colbert is safe for the next eight years.

George H. Bush was the last president who only served one term.

Are you saying Jimmy Fallon is a quality talk show host? Because that's a whole can of worms.

Fallon is a yes man. Saying his show is cookie-cutter is putting it mildly.

I think the problem is that people keep comparing the two simply because they both have similarly-formatted shows at the same time. But they're completely different hosts, completely different goals.

Fallon isn't a great interviewer, of course, in fact, he can be cringe-worthy horrible, like Leno was. But he's a GREAT showman. He's a pop-culturist, a song-and-dance inprovisionist.

Colbert is winning because he's somewhat to be taken seriously in the vein of Jon Stewart. His a satirist who addresses serious issues with humor. In the age of Trump, people want to hear an alternate point of view.

I know they're competing for the timeslot, but in today's world, I really think there's room for both their talents. Some days I want a silly throw-pies-in-each-other's-face variety show, some days I want to laugh at the darkness of the world around me.

I know there's articles about pressure being put on Fallon to be more political because of his sliding to Colbert. I wish they'd just leave him alone and let each host bring the talent they have to the table.

Agree, JD. If people want political comedy they already have a dozen options that aren't Fallon. I've never gotten the feeling that Fallon wanted to do that type of show and the networks are pressuring him not to.

My goodness, she was still alive? I watched Letterman very infrequently, but I saw a few of her appearances and she seemed like a positively lovely, upbeat, gentle lady.

Announcer Alan Kalter has passed. I got into watching the Alan Kalter Celebrity Interview last year. Even though it was the same joke over and over, it never failed to make me laugh.

Damn that's sad to hear. He was also the great voice of USA Network during it's heyday of the 80's and 90's. Impossible to think of those promos without hearing his voice. "You're watching USA. America's favorite cable network."

I decided to click on the link and watch a few clips. I'm 20 minutes in with no signs of stopping.

I always enjoyed him on Letterman. His bits were odd a lot of times, but also funny and entertaining. RIP.

I had already watched most of those last year, so I enjoyed some "Big Red" segments along with some of his song and dance numbers last night. Since Britney's been in the news a lot lately...

Dave will be stopping by Late Night with Seth Meyers tonight to celebrate the 40th anniversary of "Late Night".
