From Dusk Til Dawn: The Series officially greenlit. Will premiere in early 2014
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=111083
The 10-episode serialized drama, created, directed and executive produced by Rodriguez, will feature a principal cast including D.J. Cotrona (Dear John, G.I. Joe: Retaliation) as Seth Gecko, the role that famously launched the film career of George Clooney. Zane Holtz (Holes, The Perks of Being a Wallflower) stars as Richie Gecko, and Jesse Garcia (Quinceañera, "Sons of Anarchy") plays Texas Ranger Freddie Gonzalez, a new character created for the series. Don Johnson (Django Unchained, "Nash Bridges") will play Sheriff Earl McGraw in a recurring role.
“From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series” is a supernatural crime saga centered around bank robber, Seth Gecko (Cotrona) and his violent, unpredictable brother, Richard “Richie” Gecko (Holtz), who are wanted by the FBI and Texas Rangers Earl McGraw (Johnson) and Freddie Gonzalez (Garcia) after a bank heist left several people dead. While on an escape route to Mexico, Seth and Richie encounter former minister Jacob Fuller and his family who they take hostage. Using the family RV to make a run for the Mexican border, chaos ensues when the group detours to a strip club that is unknowingly populated by vampires, and forces them to fight until dawn in order to get out alive. The series deepens the tone of the film, adds new characters and backstories and expands the Mesoamerican mythology behind the vampires.

Why use the characters and story from the movie? At least the sequels took the story in a new direction. I would be open to a series but this seems lazy.

One of my favorite movies ever, but I'm not very thrilled by the idea of a TV show. He should have come up with something new.

My instincts say that this is unnecessary and is going to suck big time.
But then I thought the same thing about Hannibal...

It looks like Time Warner and Comcast will be the only distributors of this new network for the time being.
Comcast is a partner with the network.
Why the hell would Rodriguez launch his own fucking network to launch this show? They aren't going to get any viewers or ad money considering the low distribution. Rodriguez would have been better off pitching this to say FX.

/\ FX wouldn't touch this, they don't need to. FearNET maybe, though.

I was thinking Starz might touch this to replace something like Spartacus. A better idea might to be to set the show directly after the end of the movie. Just recast the main characters.

I can see Cinemax picking this up. Perhaps a replacement for Strike Back which has one final season remaining.

I don't know why I'm mentioning this/bumping this thread, because probably 99% of this forum won't get this channel anyways.
Adrianne Palicki is joining the cast of From Dusk Til Dawn. She was Tyra on Friday Night Lights and was also on GI Joe: Retaliation.

The Canadian Blu has a dull color timing that doesn't really reflect the intended look of the film. Like a lot of those early Canadian releases it was probably a cable master that Alliance simply rushed to disc (almost all were 1080i transfers and several were modified to 1.78:1 to fill 16x9 sets) and as a likely cable master it was probably produced with a more "normal" color scheme as to not cause a lot of viewer complaints when programmed between more traditional-looking films.
Basically with FDTD in North America you pretty much have to weigh the pros and cons of each release because they're all problematic in one way or another. The Echo Bridge releases obviously have a lot of problems but as far as I'm concerned their transfer accurately replicates the overall look of the film while suffering from compression problems (especially when being crammed onto a single disc with as many as 3 other films) and an audio downgrade. I think Echo Bridge is as guilty as Alliance when it comes to just throwing the most readily-available HD source onto a disc but in the case of FDTD they happened upon the correct version.

So is his cable channel going to allow for nudity? I can't imagine FDTD without lots of bare stripper breasts.
