Well, we need some time and distance from this thing, and it's too early to say best series, as a lot of shows have had great first seasons and then fallen apart. I DO think it's going to be remembered as one of the greatest FIRST seasons of a TV series ever - right up there with TWIN PEAKS and THE SOPRANOS.

You're all wrong. This is exactly the seventh greatest first season of all time. 20th best show of all time. Second best show featuring Clarke Peters. First best show with Alexandra Daddario and third best show with a green-eared monster.

Just finished the first season yesterday. I really liked it. Such a well acted, well written show. Wish I had kept up so I could have contributed to the week-to-week dialog.
About the finale : That seemed like some lucky detective work. I had my house pained a few years ago. Can't remember exactly when, who I hired, how much it cost. A guy was doing some of the neighbor's houses and I hired him as well. I would have been useless to these guys.
On that topic : How does someone get a deduction for painting their house? That doesn't seem like a deductible expense (unless the house is a rental, and I don't recall the lady saying that).

Well this may not be the GREATEST show I've ever seen but it is certainly ONE of them. Top Ten certainly. Going off the first season at any rate.

Brad Pitt to star next season? http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/321...true-detective
Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson were the stars of the first, could Brad Pitt be tackling the lead role in the second season of HBO's highly acclaimed anthology crime drama series "True Detective"?
A source for The Daily Star UK says: "Brad is already part of the HBO family and if commitments allow he will be part of the second season of True Detective. The quality of the scripts means the biggest A-listers in the world want the role."
The paper claims the actor is thrashing out last-minute details of a deal with bosses at HBO, and he's effectively onboard. Now it's just a matter of scheduling.
Cary Fukunaga helmed all eight episodes of the first season which followed years in the life of two police officers who were given the responsibility to investigate a murder case.

I still really enjoyed the ride but agree with who ever said this,
"Gratuitous usage of a comparatively obscure literary reference to make the show feel "smarter" than it truly is."

Just finished this, and I was kind of disappointed. Plot-wise, it was a pretty standard exercise - the characterization of Rust was the best part.

I finished this last night, liked the show overall. It took a couple episodes to get going...I initially watched the first 3 episodes when they aired and didn't pick it back up until this week. Glad I did though.
My only question about the finale is what the hell was Rust looking at just prior to getting stabbed by Errol? It was this sparkling blue swirling cloud or mist...were we just seeing things from Rust's perspective and he's hallucinating?

If Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey do another season, I hope it's inspired by this bootleg cover:

Damn, Chef Gordon Ramsay gave a tour de force performance but Mcconaughey was the breakout.
