Those Who Kill -- Series Thread -- S: Chloe Sevigny -- Now on LMN

Based on the Danish crime series format inspired by the bestselling work of author Elsebeth Egholm, the thrilling drama follows Catherine Jensen (Sevigny), a recently promoted homicide detective who tracks down serial killers and relentlessly seeks the truth behind the disappearance of her brother. Pittsburgh serves as the picturesque backdrop for the ten-episode serialized drama. As a freshly minted homicide detective, Catherine Jensen has garnered a reputation for overstepping her boundaries in her unrelenting pursuit to solve Pittsburgh's most gruesome murders. Motivated by her past, including the disappearance of her brother and the suspicion that her stepfather is a serial killer, she often finds herself emotionally connected to the victims she's investigating. Jensen enlists the help of Thomas Schaeffer (D'Arcy), a forensic psychologist who has a tumultuous relationship with the police department, to provide insight into her cases and her personal investigation into her stepfather. He too finds himself deeply connected to each case, but often through the killer, which proves to be a hazardous undertaking. The pair shares a skewed sense of judgment that often puts them, and sometimes even their families, at risk. As these two captivating yet flawed characters come together, their bond often rescues them from their individual demons but may be the source of more harmful tribulations.

10 episode 1st season

This is based on a Danish TV series with the same name

Other notable cast members:

James Morrison (24)
James D'Arcy

Trailer:

Looks like The Following, but with a female lead. Trailer makes it look worth watching. But man, Mondays are ridiculous for scripted programming.

It almost sounds like Hannibal. At least that's the vibe I get from it. Or rather Hannibal without Hannibal, but with most of the other elements.

I've seen the original and it's not my favorite of the nordic crime shows but it wasn't bad. This was pretty blah as I expected. I love Chloë Sevigny but she didn't really bring much to the show. Pretty bland overall...almost boring.

Bump

This is airing right now for East coast viewers.

Also, forgot to mention that this episode has been available on demand and on Hulu and A&E's website for a few weeks now. That's probably how skacore saw it early.

With that short bob in tonite's pilot, Chloe Sevigny looked like she just came straight from that Larry Clark porn film - she really hasn't aged much.

If A+E was looking for a companion piece to their Criminal Minds reruns, I think they found it.

I liked it enough to keep watching.

I was surprised they wrapped up the serial killer plot. Is this going to be a case of the week show with the background on Sevigny's character being the arc?

I know this got kind of lukewarm reviews from a lot of the media, but I enjoyed it. Yes it was a crime drama, but it did have a little more edge to it than your typical network drama.

The killer in this episode was freaking nuts. at how he fed that last victim cat food through that peep hole.

The heroine of this series Jensen seems to have a lot of issues. The scene that I found really odd was her attempting to cut her stomach with the razor. Schaeffer is a little odd as well. I thought it was really creepy how the killer didn't finish the job at his hideout and still attempted to go after the victim at the hospital afterwards disguised as a security officer.

I think this is more of a character arc driven show. As seen by the preview for the upcoming episodes, looks like Jensen has some kind of vendetta against her step father (Bruce Davison) They did sort of set it up in the opening scene, although strangely.

BTW, pretty impressive creative team behind this show.

Brian Grazer is one of the many Producers.

Joe Carnahan directed the Pilot and was an Executive Producer. He also directed the Pilot and another episode of The Blacklist this season.

Glen Morgan, who worked on the Final Destination movies, X Files, Millenium and The Commish, wrote the Pilot and is showrunner.

Well, I loved it. I thought is was riveting so I'll definitely be tuning in for future episodes. This and "Bates Motel" will be great back to back viewing.

Watched this last night. Has potential -- I just hope they work some of the kinks out from the pilot. Namely some hokey dialogue and minor pacing issues. I'll continue to tune in to see where it goes.

I put off watching the pilot because of the bad reviews, but finally got to see it tonight. Definitely not great out of the gate, but I liked it quite a bit. Noticed how many reviewers said great things about Chloe but said her talents are mostly wasted here. I thought she was really good and she's the primary reason I even wanted to watch the show. I'm in for the entire season. Nice that all of "Bill's" sister wives are on television again.

Interesting but predictable episode based on the decision from the DA about her job. They need to get rid of the indie pop rock music as it really undermines a show such as this.

I actually didn't notice the music. Seriously. And I thought this was a very solid episode. I'm on board from this point on.

Enjoying this show. I normally hate cop dramas but I'm very interested in Sevigny & D'Arcy's characters.

Wow, apparently A&E just pulled this from their schedule. Low ratings.

It isn't cancelled though. The Monday at 10pm timeslot wasn't working for it. It says A&E is going to try to find a new timeslot for it. The remaining 8 episodes will still air.

It's premature to judge the overall quality of the show since only 2 episodes have aired, but it isn't bad. However, Mondays are just killer for a new show like this to find an audience, especially in the 10pm timeslot.

Don't really expect that kind of thing to happen on cable.

Deadline confirms that A&E is going to try to relaunch it at another timeslot.

Bornheimer strikes again!

Even when he does a guest spot, he takes the show down with him!

Returning, popular show based on an existing franchise and... a brand new one. Oh, yeah, and that brand new one is up against three similarly genre shows on network TV - Blacklist, Intelligence and Castle - and Bates is up against... nada. Reality and comedies.

Then factor in that this ain't broadcast TV, A&E doesn't have a billion other shows, nor any replacement at all? And they pull it in two episodes?!? To put in reruns of something else? This makes no sense assuming they paid for the episodes. If it's a case of wanting higher ratings for ad revenue, Bates rerun #5 is obviously going to have a fraction of the ratings this show got. So unless there's some weird contractual thing where they don't have to pay if they don't make it to air, this is nuts.

I never watched this, DVR'd it and now obviously needn't bother with them. That being said, I hope A&E realizes the effect this will have with viewers such as myself. Even for network TV, pulling after only two episodes is almost unprecedented. But for cable, I can't really recall any scripted show ever being pulled like this in recent memory. Two episodes?! I don't care if they're going with the, 'We'll relaunch this in a better timeslot later' excuse, the intent is clear. It's gonna be a cold day in hades before I try anything on A&E after this until it comes out on DVD.

And they do this, all to put Bates Motel in the extraordinarily more competitive 10pm slot? Up against three other hour long dramas with weird/unusual bents? Are they trying to kill two shows in one month?
