Actually this is allowed. When a contestant throws out an answer that sounds like the right answer or too ambiguous, Alex wait for the writers to make a ruling. During that pause, the contestant is allowed to correct him/herself. If he/she correct him/herself in time before the ruling, then the correct answer is allowed.

My problem with the above situation is that it is not applied evenly. Sometimes Alex says, "No" immediately, other times there is a long pause. I don't like that some people are given the chance to correct themselves and others aren't.
I think there is a big difference between:
Contestant: What is petid? I mean, what is peptic.
and
Contestant: What is peptid?
(Pause.
Sees Alex looking at judges.
Thinks, oh, did I say the wrong thing?)
What is peptic?
Alex: Correct.

I have been leery of updating this thread for fear of a jinx but Julia Collins won again tonight:

POSTED: MAY 1ST, 2014
Jeopardy Julia first 8-time female winner on ‘Jeopardy’
Move over Arthur Chu and Ken Jennings. Women have arrived in the champion’s circle at the iconic game show #Jeopardy.
Julia Collins — her Twitter handle is @JeopardyJulia — won her eighth straight game on “Jeopardy” last night. The Illinois native has earned more than $170,000 so far. She is in good company, according to The Wire. A few weeks ago, Sandie Baker had a six-game streak. And Stephanie Jass, an Adrian College Ph.D., won seven games in a row in 2012.
Another female who set a record on “Jeopardy” is Larissa Kelly, according to Wikipedia. She won more than $222,000 during six games in 2008. She won the most money as a female contestant and placed fifth among all winners for most money won.
Kelly broke Ken Jennings‘ record for most money won in a contestant’s first five days when she hit $179,797. She also boasts a single game day winning of $45,200 which Maria Wenglinsky topped at $46,600 on November 1, 2005.

Jennings answered Albright along with Buchanan for never married Sec of State 160 years apart. Oh well, Rutter and Jennings are always fun to watch.

On the other hand, if Ken had gotten Final Jeopardy, he would have won. And really, Roger was right there except blowing $10K on daily doubles each day. It was a pretty god match-up.

Also, Ken couldn't get a Daily Double to save his life. You could tell he was looking for them all game (selecting from the middle of the board, category jumping), but to no avail. Rutter hit 4 out of 6 over the two days. Great tournament though, really liked the increased difficulty of the questions. Plus I got Day 1's Final Jeopardy right when both Ken and Brad didn't know the answer, so obviously I'm better than the best of the best at Jeopardy!

Yeah, I also got the first Final Jeopardy when they missed it. I was really surprised neither of them got it, but then again, we're on a DVD forum, so may have a bit more interest in films, than most. I knew Silence of the Lambs, but I didn't know As Good as it Gets.
I also couldn't believe Roger missed "edema." I thought that one was pretty easy. It kind of looked like he just panicked and went blank.
Pretty impressive that he was really just 2 answers out of being in serious contention.

I just saw an ad reminding us what's-her-name will be returning on Monday. They compare her to Arthur, asking, "Will what's her name beat his record?"
On another board, someone posted this excellent article, out-lining exactly how Arthur became a big story for his Jeopardy skills, despite doing nothing remarkable game-wise.

A mere seven months ago, starting on July 1, IT worker Ben Ingram buzzed his way to an 8-game Jeopardy winning streak, eventually ending up 9th on the list of all-time money winners...
Yet instead of landing interviews with the Wall Street Journal and CNN, instead of starring in breathless pieces about how he was destroying Jeopardy, instead of being praised as a genius and hero, Ben just quietly collected his $177,000 and went home to South Carolina. Same technique, more success, way less attention.

Sony should remake "Kenny Vs. Spenny" with Rutter and Jennings.

Although Arthur wound up winning nearly $300,000, he had won significantly less than other players when the articles touting him as an unique player began appearing.

Yeah, I was glad to see her move into second place, all time, for number of wins.
She's very good!

It looked like she was starting to get bored or complacent the last few episodes. I can imagine that after winning so many days in a row, it starts to become more of a competition against yourself. Not that the guy that won yesterday wasn't good, but he didn't dominate.

I don't recall seeing a promo touting her wins right before last night's episode so I had a feeling her streak was going to end. As Alex said she will be back for the Tournament of Champions. Congrats Julia!
