Modern Family - "The Big Game" - 12/4/13

"The Big Game" - With a big football game coming up and a record to break, Coach Cam is intensely focused and showing no mercy even when the opposing team is playing with an unexpected disadvantage. Elsewhere, Claire is determined to prove to the staff that she is more than just the boss's daughter, and Phil tries to teach his kids a lesson about optimism, but the universe just isn't cooperating, on "Modern Family," WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 4 (9:00-9:31 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

Yawn. Way to much Claire. This show has lost its mojo.

Yea... I'm sad to say this show has become background noise.

There were a few clever lines ("no mourning Knight this afternoon") but overall it was a miss. The idea of a boy crazy 4-year-old is more disturbing than funny.

I like the Lilly/Gloria pairing. I think that works much better than Lilly with Cam/Mitchel.

I enjoyed Phil's antics entering the house from the window and the first "dome" joke. The other times were beaten to death.

Season low in ratings last night.

Honestly, other than Phil this show isn't very good.

I think the problem is that the child actor who plays Luke has hit awkward in a bad way when the show really needed the child actor who plays Manny to be the one who hit awkward.

Highspot was Phil all depressed at his luck, then everything turned around for him in a space of 5 seconds.

Yea, I swear the kid who plays Manny has barely changed since Season 1. I looked back at S1 and basically Manny's just seems a couple inches taller now. He's 15 years old and hasn't hit puberty yet, while Luke (same age) definitely has.

Exactly. Manny hitting puberty would have been great for the show while Luke was the one that needed to stay a child.

Too bad. Not much you can do about that.

Funny thing is that my DVR picked up a syndicated episode yesterday. The one where Mitchell quits his job because he's tired of working weekends. Then I watch this one and it's Mitchell trying to quit his job again. They've definitely hit a huge wall with Mitch and Cam.

Though I did enjoy Cam's stuff this episode. I got a kick out of him trying to win the game against a team that just lost their coach.

Any more episodes without a single laugh and I'm dropping the show. It had a good run, but it's just not funny anymore.

I liked the last few, especially the farm episode & the Apollo 13 bit, but this one fell short. However, as long as Phil delivers, I'm in.

Agreed, he's the only one I look forward to now. Luke was way better before the growth spurt
