I must have missed something did they mention this in this ep?

Speaking of, I doubt they'll call it Flash. My guess would be Central City.

Or they could do what they did with Green Arrow and call it "Ash".

I cracked up when Allen was re-arranging the chemicals while thunder echoed outside.

i really hope it isn't a traditional backdoor pilot (so bad you'd rather take it in the ass than watch the rest of the series)

I think he was making a joke about Allen's past, at least as it was described in this ep., being similar to Batman's. (Parent killed by mysterious assailant, now hell-bent on vengeance.)

Or:

well, they made him an assistant, and joked about him getting carded at the bar
so at least they realized he looked too young

I was hoping Arrow killed off Albercrombie. Just wish they would take him and the girl that lives in the streets off the show.

That girl living on the streets is totally miscast in the role. It's about the only cringe-worthy thing left on the show.

They'll call it "Sheldon's Hero".

I did think it was strange they tranq'd Berry at the end to take him to the Arrowcave. You'd think since they were going to let him in on the secret & wanted him to work on Ollie right away, having him out & having to wait unti he woke up would waste time they didn't have.

I don't know how the Flash got his powers in the comics but they did mention that particle accellerator a few times in the beginning.

In the comics, Barry Allen was working at the police forensics lab and lightning struck the lab, and bathed him in all sorts of chemicals, which resulted in giving him super-speed powers.

Ah. In today's time, the particle accelerator might make more sense to be involved with a speed based hero. Maybe still include the lightning. He is near the particle accelerator when lighting hits it, causing it to open and the particles infuse with his body & accelerate his particles.

It gets even more complicated in the comics. Through a bit of time travel, it turned out that Barry Allen is the lightning bolt that originally gave him his powers.

I'm eager to find out how fast they actually make the Flash in Arrow's universe. Making him fast enough to travel in time opens up a lot of storytelling possibilities for his show.

Quick question regarding the old Flash TV series that is currently on DVD right now. I never saw it when it aired on CBS 20+ years ago. I know the 1st and only season can be bought relatively cheap (under $10). Is that even worth a blind buy and watch now or is it horrendously dated? Or was the series really bad (hence it lasting only 1 season)

resinrats 12-08-13 01:58 PM

Re: Arrow -- "The Scientist" -- 12/04/13

I'd leave out the time travel powers. Once you do that, he could just go back in time and stop every crime from happening. If he didn't then the character is stupid for not doing so & any deaths the villians cause will be his fault for not going back and stopping it.

I know there is something called the Time Treadmill in the comics. Sounds like the stupidest thing ever. Leave that out as well. Maybe throw a little nod to it and have him have a treadmill in his house but it is just a normal treadmill.

I remember that. Haven't seen it since it first aired so I don't know how it stands up but I watched the whole thing so it was cool at the time. I do remember they explained his supersuit & why he needed it.

Spoiler:
It was a diver suit or something. Going so fast caused normal clothes to rip off his body due to speed/friction. So unless he wanted to run around and wind up naked, he wore the diver suit since it could take the speed.

Yes, it's worth a blind buy. It actually holds up really well. The production value is really high, the stories aren't really campy, and you get to see Mark Hammill play Flash villian The Trickster which is the closest you will get to seeing him play a live action Joker. It does have some corny moments and lame plots, but honestly I think this is the best live action super hero show right behind Arrow. The only thing that makes it not as well known is the fact that it lasted only one season.

Which is ironic considering how fantastic that actress was as "Bullet"--also a street kid--in season three of The Killing.
