I can't wait to see John in full on revenge mode.

Re: Person of Interest -- "The Devil's Share" -- 11/26/13
Yup, John will be in I don't give a fuck mode tonight.
Never expected that John and Carter would develop an emotional connection before she died, but surprisingly it worked. |
Re: Person of Interest -- "The Devil's Share" -- 11/26/13
Other than Root shooting all those Russians through the door and Fusco punching a guy with broken fingers (-rolleyes-), an excellent end to this mini-arc. Loved the opening montage, though I'm not usually a fan of those. Also liked that Fusco didn't whack Simmons, and Elias' little speech at the end.

Re: Person of Interest -- "The Devil's Share" -- 11/26/13
Super Root was pushing it but after Shaw kicking the crap out of a guy three times her size/weight a few episodes back, I just reluctantly shrugged it off. But I was bothered by the Fusco fight. Especially since he actually got some hits in with the broken hand.
Loved Elias' speech at the end. What was the deal with Reese's gun not firing? Is that really possible (blood soaking in to the point that the hammer will not trigger the primer of the bullet)? |
Re: Person of Interest -- "The Devil's Share" -- 11/26/13
Great three episode arc, though Act 2 was my favorite.
I had hope that they faked Carter's death (even faking a funeral), and a part of me wished she came out of the shadows at the end to kill Simmons. I'll miss Carter... |
Re: Person of Interest -- "The Devil's Share" -- 11/26/13
Loved it, especially Elias' appearance at the end; I was hoping he'd come into play after the events of last week's episode. But, I'm ever so slightly concerned that they're taking Root's "abilities" a little too far. Hopefully she won't last past this season.

Re: Person of Interest -- "The Devil's Share" -- 11/26/13
I didn't like the romantic connection between Carter and John at all. To me, it was completely unnecessary to go there. There's nothing I can point to outside of this arc that even suggests they look at each other that way. John and Zoe? Sure. But John and Carter? Nah.
There were also several moments over the course of the arc where the acting felt really wooden. Not normal John stoic, but wooden acting. Lethal Weapon did the wound comparing/revealing amidst romance much better. I could buy HR as a shadow organization, but at this point, they were showing it as basically the whole NYPD. It doesn't appear there was a single legit (non-corrupt) law enforcement officer at any level they were concerned about. It's better if the organization is very powerful, but mostly because it's hidden, not because everyone is part of it. I like the root character. But one thing that irritates me is having a connection to a machine does not suddenly make you a soldier. And now she's not only a master at arms, she's ambidextrous as well. Still, TV is a visual medium, and it did allow for some cool looking scenes. I liked the Shaw flashback showing her being expelled from a medical program due to lack of empathy. I thought that portion of the show touched on some really good points. Some of the themes are similar to themes explored in House. If you have to choose, do you want the guy with the great bedside manner, or do you want the brilliant guy who considers your illness a challenge he must solve? I didn't totally buy the explanation that Shaw's lack of empathy/sympathy would make her a bad doctor, but I still thought the show covered the issues reasonably well given the restraints. |

I actually liked that part and didn't view it as being romantic at all. More of "we're gonna die, it was nice knowing you, thanks for everything" kind of kiss and connection.

Re: Person of Interest -- "The Devil's Share" -- 11/26/13
I read in an interview with Carter that the kiss was improvised by John and they went with it.

Re: Person of Interest -- "The Devil's Share" -- 11/26/13
That was one of the best openings of a TV show in a long time.

Re: Person of Interest -- "The Devil's Share" -- 11/26/13
Damn this show is great. It never disappoints. Great ending to the arc. Now we go back to that other organization that is in the shadows. That was sort of an odd roll for Richard Brooks. I loved the music in this episode. I think the best part of the episode was Lionel not being the one to kill Simmons. They have really redeemed his character from the start of the show.

Re: Person of Interest -- "The Devil's Share" -- 11/26/13
Loved it.
Great end to the HR story arc. Now I'm assuming Elias' group will be the big criminal player in the show. Also agree I liked how Lionel has redeemed himself mostly because of Carter. His speech at the end to Simmons was great. The score and music was great in this episode. The open using the Johnny Cash song was awesome. Loved it especially in the sequence when Reese broke into the safe house to get Quinn. It had a very techno like feel. at Super Root with the 2 guns taking out those Russians. Her character is a little over the top. |

Re: Person of Interest -- "The Devil's Share" -- 11/26/13
I didn't think the kiss was romantic at all. It was a moment of connection. The fact that I've read in several articles the last week that it wasn't scripted but the actors ad-libbed it seems to bare that out.

Re: Person of Interest -- "The Devil's Share" -- 11/26/13
I liked the kiss. It was an expression of pure friendship, an expression of thanks that she had saved his life, a tender moment. Didn't bother me and showed how deeply John--a character generally disconnected with his emotions--cared.

Re: Person of Interest -- "The Devil's Share" -- 11/26/13
And I'm now caught up. I love that they used "Hurt" in the beginning. I still don't get how Root can be that good of a shot.
