I'm wondering if this show will be more Smallville than Arrow.

Re: The Flash (CW) -- Spinoff of Arrow -- Coming this Fall
Some pretty interesting DC Comics-related tv news has been spinning out of the Television Critics Association press tour today. TV Guide has a consise rundown of events:
IGN followed up with Johns on the “separate universes” point, and he told them, “You’ll see a lot of DC universe characters [on The Flash and Arrow]. You won’t see Batman or Superman. We’re on production on Batman V Superman now. So you’ll see characters like The Atom or Firestorm, but no not Batman or Superman right now [on TV].” But… longer term, just perhaps adding a little fuel to the rumor fire that DC may be leading up to an annual Justice League television mini-series event which could be announced San Diego this year, exec producer Greg Berlanti also adds: Also, the producers are aiming high up on the DC roster. “Between [Arrow and Flash], we’ll have half the Justice League on our two shows this year,” |
Re: The Flash (CW) -- Spinoff of Arrow -- Coming this Fall
So the movies and TV series are definitely separate. That means either Flash will not be in the Justice League movies (which would be very odd considering he's an iconic member) or they are going to pull a Quicksilver and have two Flashes. Maybe Wally will be the Flash in the movies or maybe not since the West family is already in the TV series.

Re: The Flash (CW) -- Spinoff of Arrow -- Coming this Fall
It would be 2 Flashes.
|
Re: The Flash (CW) -- Spinoff of Arrow -- Coming this Fall
Really dumb move but typical of shortsighted DC/Warner.
|
Re: The Flash (CW) -- Spinoff of Arrow -- Coming this Fall
Yeah cause people just couldn't wrap their heads around Tom Welling AND Brandon Routh being Superman at the same time. It's fine. In typical nerd fashion, overreact first and make that your final judgement without seeing an ounce of footage of either.
I think it's so they can have a more grounded (and possibly younger) Flash in the Arrow universe but still have a superhero Flash mixing it up with Batman & Superman in the movies. I see no reason not to take this route. |
Re: The Flash (CW) -- Spinoff of Arrow -- Coming this Fall
I just think it's a lost opportunity, not that people "can't wrap their heads around" having two actors playing the same character.
Edit: Also, if you think my single sentence statement was an overreaction, clearly you haven't been on a comic book forum... |

I'm not in an uproar about it at all. It just is a missed opportunity not to have the movies and TV connected is all. Also saying Flash on TV is more grounded is a laugh riot. There's nothing grounded at all about a man who can run faster than the speed of light. We also know he is getting his flashy rogues gallery on the show since both Weather Wizard and Captain Cold are announced. |
Re: The Flash (CW) -- Spinoff of Arrow -- Coming this Fall
I'm just saying I haven't seen an ounce of footage in regards to the direction they are going so it's absurd to make a judgment either way.
Whose to say tying the two together wouldn't limit the possibilities of one or the other? |

Whose to say tying the two together wouldn't limit the possibilities of one or the other? The pilot episode was also leaked weeks ago. I watched it, and there's nothing grounded about it. It's definitely in the superhero superpower genre. |
Re: The Flash (CW) -- Spinoff of Arrow -- Coming this Fall
The pilot did feel like later Smallville-ish to me. (Around the time when Watchtower started coming into play)
I don't consider that a bad thing, though. |
Re: The Flash (CW) -- Spinoff of Arrow -- Coming this Fall
Watched the teaser and that's about it. I'll wait until it airs to see the pilot.

[QUOTEReally dumb move but typical of shortsighted DC/Warner.][QUOTE]
Even if they wanted to its probably pretty hard to have the two stars of two of your TV shows stopping production for a couple months in order to film a movie. I bet it comes down to logistics more than anything else. |

Nerds and their "continuity"
Just enjoy the shows/movies for what they are, and leave it at that. |

You do know that unless you are a Nielsen family then what you watch doesn't affect the ratings one bit, right? Watching a leaked TV pilot isn't the same as watching a leaked movie or playing a leaked video game. Many times "leaked" TV pilots on "leaked" on purpose by the studio to gain attention to it.
|
Re: The Flash (CW) -- Spinoff of Arrow -- Coming this Fall
I don't know why they wouldn't want the same actor in both the TV show and the movies. Assuming the casting is good, the crossover would be excellent for the ratings of both. (Moreso the TV show than the movie.)
|
Re: The Flash (CW) -- Spinoff of Arrow -- Coming this Fall
I can see the movie people not wanting to worry about already established continuity on the shows (Arrow has introduced a lot of characters) and the TV people not wanting to worry about scheduling the shows around the movie schedule.
|
Re: The Flash (CW) -- Spinoff of Arrow -- Coming this Fall
Even though there's no shared "continuity" :yack: between the TV shows and the movies, you could still have Stephen Amell show up as Green Arrow in a Justice League movie. There'd be a least SOME audience recognition, and you wouldn't have to go into any backstory really. Give him a Van Dyke and an updated, more cinematic costume and if anyone wonders how it fits, just tell them to relax and just enjoy the movie on its own terms without worrying about how it "fits" into anything.
|
Re: The Flash (CW) -- Spinoff of Arrow -- Coming this Fall
But then he returns to the tv show and has the old costume/tech.
In theory sharing continuity would be awesome but it just opens up a host of problems. we're talking about a $200m movie sharing continuity with a CW show. The only way it works in my mind is if they're dumping a bunch of money into the show like it was HBO. |

Re: The Flash (CW) -- Spinoff of Arrow -- Coming this Fall
So Thor and Captain A, Hulk and the gang are regulars? We're talking about a core superhero & title character of his own show, not a bunch of people in suits.

Re: The Flash (CW) -- Spinoff of Arrow -- Coming this Fall
And neither character require tons of FX work or fancy costumes to maintain on a weekly basis. I'm just saying I don't think you can take a superhero that requires a bunch of cool fx and high production values on a big budget film and then drop him into a CW show with a limited budget and have the character 'feel' the same. There's something that's going to get lost in there.
Take the suit for Flash. Leather outfit might be good enough for tv but I want Flash in a real body suit on film. So what happens after the film comes out and he goes back to tv? Does he go back to the leather look? Bodysuit was stolen from his car? |

Re: The Flash (CW) -- Spinoff of Arrow -- Coming this Fall
Years ago, there was talk of shooting a 24 feature film in between seasons. Back in 2005 or 2006, Joel Surnow, Howard Gordon and Bob Cochran wrote a script for a 24 feature film, which would supposedly shoot after 24 season 6 wrapped filming. They had a really tight window though. They could only shoot between March through July and then have to start work on season 7. They scrapped the whole idea because they were afraid the TV version would suffer because of it and they would half ass the film production schedule.
Here are the bullet points from what their plans were back then. Too bad they couldn't pull it off http://www.ign.com/boards/threads/24...ide.120245832/ Film and TV operate on different schedules. TV is so much tighter and shoots from July all the way until March because they have to crank out 22-24 episodes. Plus, it takes 8-9 days to film an episode. Speaking of Flash and Arrow, it would IMO be too difficult to loan out Amell or Gustin to shoot scenes in a feature film, runned by different people from a different side of WB in other locations while trying to keep them working on the TV show and stay on schedule. Arrow and Flash shoot in Vancouver. Hypothetically, What happens if say the JL movie needs to film scenes with Green Arrow in say China? Do you really want to risk the TV version falling behind schedule because you have to fly out Amell to China to shoot for say 1 week and then fly him back? You also risk fatiguing him from the travel. |
Didn't the idea of a 24 film mutate into Redemption/Exile and eventually into Live Another Day?
|
Re: The Flash (CW) -- Spinoff of Arrow -- Coming this Fall
Hey, Micahel J fox did TV and movie at the same time. I don't want any excuses! ;)
Marvel is throwing out several linked shows on Netflix. Those surely won't suffer. Sure those characters may not show up in the films, but I bet they wouldn't rule out cameos or mentions of them/their plots. Plus and extra layer of BS, because WB/DC claim the opposite when it's convenient. "Oh, we can't have two Batman's at once - that would confuse people!" |
Re: The Flash (CW) -- Spinoff of Arrow -- Coming this Fall
Marvel's shows could quickly become an unwieldy mess in a shared television continuity, much like the comics themselves. I'm sure it will be exciting at first, until the TV writers start retconning stuff and casual viewers give up.

Re: The Flash (CW) -- Spinoff of Arrow -- Coming this Fall
Kelly Frye has signed on to play DC Comics character Plastique in the upcoming "The Flash" TV series on The CW. In the series she'll play a more heroic incarnation of the character, at least initially. Plastique (aka Sgt. Bette Sans Souci) was a bomb disposal expert in Iraq. Following the accident that gave Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) his super speed powers, Bette finds herself with the ability to turn everything she touches into a bomb. She seeks Barry's help as nefarious U.S. government forces chase her down. |

Re: The Flash (CW) -- Spinoff of Arrow -- Coming this Fall
The DC villain character of Girder, aka Tony Woodward, is joining the cast of The CW's "The Flash". In the comics Woodward was a bratty steelworker who was dunked in a vat of molten metal that had been tainted by S.T.A.R. Labs waste. He emerged as a mass of iron, impervious to most anything (except rust). In the show, Woodward used to bully young Barry in the schoolyard, and is now can transmute any part of his body into solid steel. The role is said to be a recurring one and will be introduced in the sixth episode of the new season, but it hasn't been cast as yet. |

The Molton Guy?

Re: The Flash (CW) -- Spinoff of Arrow -- Coming this Fall
Anybody know if they are gonna do the Flashback style of storytelling? That shit drove me nuts in Arrow Season 2.
|
Re: The Flash (CW) -- Spinoff of Arrow -- Coming this Fall
^If the pilot is any indication, not really. They NEEDED to do it for Arrow as there was a ton of backstory that tied into present day action. Whereas groin
