Greatest line from the show, "Han Solo, and I am the only actor who's career wasn't ruined by this movie."

sauce07 09-23-07 10:53 PM

I thought the first 15 minutes were good and the last 15 minutes, inbetween was unfunny Family Guy.

Darq 09-23-07 11:24 PM

Gotta love that Muzak version of "The Imperial March". I need to change my ringtone to that. LOL

SkullOrchard 09-23-07 11:32 PM

I'm not a Family Guy fan, I'm not even a huge Star Wars fan, but I thought it was really funny.

Same here. I never did like Family Guy, this was probably the first time I've sat and watched an episode since it first premiered, and I loved it.

The Valeyard 09-24-07 12:17 AM

Doctor Who reference on Family Guy = My life is complete!

Sean O'Hara 09-24-07 12:44 AM

Stealing jokes straight from Airplane! without any effort to change them :thmbsdwn:

A few decent jokes, which is better than most post-resurrection FGs, but can somebody please kill the freakin' pedophile already -- the joke stopped being funny seven years ago.

Alright, well here's one that's even better than that, spoilerized for size:

A great job of recreating Star Wars scenes and feeling.

But when you only laugh twice, I could've spent that time just watching Star Wars.

Oh well, I can go back to not watching it and not posting in the FG threads. :p

Shipwreck 09-24-07 08:06 AM

"We have two suns and no women!"

"The force... it binds us, and penetrates us... mmmmmm"

"I don't like you either."
"You don't even know me!"

LOVED IT

They did a great job capturing all the little things a Star Wars fan notices every time they watch the movie:

Vader stomping on Obi's robes :)
That little droid that Chewie scares etc.

My favorite parts:

"Hold your fire, there are no life forms on that escape pod"
"What are we getting paid by the laser?" :)

Also the bit about the guys who work next to the Death Star's laser -
I always thought those 2 guys would end up sterile and die of cancer within a couple of months.

Couch Gag was funny - "ok, lets take off the cushions, the legs, and then take out the mattress. We are making this harder than it is" Been there done that.

ScandalUMD 09-24-07 09:07 AM

It was an hour spent making old jokes on a 30 year old movie. And what do they come up with? Dancing stormtroopers, lightsaber dick jokes and the safety issues of death star rank-and file. Is this stuff new to anyone?

Also, Herbert the pervert is a once-off joke. I don't understand why they are turning this guy into a major secondary character.

When "Futurama" decided to rip on "Star Trek," they came up with Zap Brannigan and Kif. "Family Guy" does "Star Wars," and the funniest gag in the whole hour-long episode is two guys trying to get a couch through a door. Sad.

Fantastic

Don't know if that was the best FAMILY GUY, but it certainly was the best STAR WARS parody. Not only were some of the jokes hilarious, but it was extremely loyal - most of the animation shots and the music with them were spot-on to Lucas' theatrical version.

Loved the following "bits"

- converstation about the Death Star's weak spot ("Can't we just slap some plywood over it?")

- radio broadcast about Lando Calrissian ("We know how he got that job: affirmative action!)

- the "tricked out" TIE fighter

- Peter trying to move the couch

- Death Star guys: "All I asked for was a railing...they told me we'd just be leaning all day"

However, I could have done without:

- The "I've had the time of my life" musical number (talk about bringing things to a grinding hault).

bigsoos 09-24-07 09:36 AM

The lil musical number could have definitely been left out, but overall I thought it was good. Loved the Airplane references in the show

Mok 09-24-07 10:15 AM

Great stuff, I loved the John Williams Cameo, and the beheading of Danny Elfman. Hey how come no Luke getting a kiss from his mom ??

mdc3000 09-24-07 10:57 AM

my favourite bit was also the "what are we, paying by the laser now?", the couch and the Golf intro...First ep of Family Guy I've watched in a while - it was funny enough to keep me entertained, but this show ended for me when it returned to TV - just hasn't been the same, so while I liked most of this, I'm not back on board for the show.

TeamAnS 09-24-07 11:37 AM

My son is 7 and loves playing Lego Star Wars on the Gamecube. My wife said it was ok for him to watch this, not thinking about what show it was on (she never really watched it). I sat there hoping he didn't ask any questions, but rather let alot of the jokes go right past him. Luckily, he didn't bother with alot of the jokes, but focused on the similarities to his game.

I also enjoyed alot of the references that may go past most people, especially the Danny Elfman reference and the dialogue about Robot Chicken.

IDrinkMolson 09-24-07 12:08 PM

I loved it. Laughed at most of it. The animation was incredible too.

"Red October standing by."

That was hilarious but kinda hard to hear since the announcers were talking in hushed golf voices. Did they "rotoscope" some of the CGI scenes from the movie? It seemed like I was watching a CGI version of the original.

That was my biggest problem (that the overall lack of humor). They didn't spoof it, they just cut the movie down to 45 mins and added their jokes. God forbid FG writers come up with an actual storyline. They were some funny jokes here and there, but I'm going back to not watching FG.

dstrauss 09-24-07 01:06 PM

"Simply Red standing by." And they got Mick Hucknall to do the voice, too.

abanytime 09-24-07 02:39 PM

"That's how we do it in my neighborhood, bitch!"

I don't understand this complaint. So, they're doing a spoof of star wars, and you want them to re-write the star wars storyline? why?

Uhny Uftz 09-24-07 03:08 PM

Marginally better than "Space Balls." My god, Grey Poupon jokes? Didn't they go out of style when Johnny Carson retired?

I didn't think of it as a spoof of Star Wars - that would be what Spaceballs was... this was more of an homage to Star Wars using Family guy characters and jokes. I thought it was great. I loved that they were using the official music. I had thought it would be all 6 movies done in a 1 hour time span, but this was much better.
