Merle was piece of shit. But these days Bad Guys are the Good Guys/Fan Favorites on these shows. People simply dismiss the horrific shit they do because they like them.

I didn't like this episode mostly because the Governor should have been written out of the show at the end of last season. He's so far gone, I don't get why the writers seem to feel he needs to be "redeemed." All the nice things he did in this episode don't matter. He's a borderline sociopath. There is no redeeming the Governor. Just get rid of him and move on with the main group.
Yes the prison is played and they need to move on from it, but this (and next episode) aren't solving that. I just don't care about the Governor.

This was my favorite episode of perhaps the entire series. Very surprising. I love character pieces, and since I'm not still in puberty, don't mind "slowness" at all. This episode made me realize just how amazing a show this would be if it were a different person's story every few episodes. Showing the zombie apocalypse from many people's viewpoints, not just Mopemaster Rick and his gang of Mopers.
Also, the food was called "Roni Sticks" and "'Sketti Rings".
Did anyone else catch the little bit of humor in the graffiti:

That Brian guy seems like a really decent fellow. I hope he doesn't run into any of the true hardcases out there, like what's his name from last season.

Merle was damaged goods. He was fascinating to observe how he came to acknowledge just what he was and how much stronger his baby brother really was compared to him. That's what made Merle's attempted turn (he really couldn't transition all the way) so captivating and heartbreaking. It's because you knew despite what a piece of shit he was, Daryl loved him and Merle knew he didn't deserve that.

Even Monroe is all broken-up about millions dying when he killed just as many indirectly is kind of laughable.

Shit, his past actions were pure bad writing. I'm not a cheer leader for the character, but man, did they do some good writing this last episode.

I think this was a good episode. It's pretty clear that the Governor was a family man before, but he got crazy with the dead zombies and awfully ruthless/power hungry. It'll be interesting to see if his failures have taught him any lessons, or if he'll fail the same way again this time around.

Wow, I'm surprised at the negative reaction here. I thought this was easily the best episode of this season up to this point. (I mean aside from a few great action scenes here and there, I don't think there have been any better overall episodes so far this season.)
This episode was like a standalone mini-movie with a character we already knew a lot of backstory about, but it developed him and made him into a much more complex and interesting character than he ever was before.

This was a really good episode. Same it was about such an irredeemable character that I can't make myself care about.

I was impressed with the ep overall though. Which surprised me because the montage of him just walking around in the beginning to that awful indie music was really, really bad. I loved the one shot when the camera pans around his body as he slowly turned his head. So corny.
