I'm ok if you experiment with a season and make the whole season take place in a couple of days. I'm ok if you want a swerve ending. I'm not ok with doing that for the final season, then in basically two episodes basically render everything that happened in that entire season I just watched, moot. Especially when you could have shown me instead a season of courting Milioti instead.

Is any of that complaining about Season 9 of HIMYM really relevant to this new series, though?
Not to make too much of this, but legitimately asking. Do people honestly feel that since they couldn't stick the landing of HIMYM at all, that this show will automatically suck? Or is it just to "get back" at the original showrunners for how they ended the previous series?

If anything, with new writers, a new cast, and a new direction they have a chance to make up for the failings of the original.

They used the ending they had in mind from day one.
The problem was, the show they made over those nine years became something else and that ending completely fell flat.

Only if the writers from the final season are the head writers for this new show.
It's not about sticking the landing, per se, but the show overstaying its welcome and the long slow decline into mediocrity until they just shoved the show's corpse over a cliff for the final season.

In the near future, Sophie (Hilary Duff) is telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults us back to the year 2022 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options. How I Met Your Father premieres on Hulu on January 18, 2022.

I was like "wtf is this"... till "we're the bravest people in this city"... camera pans out and we see firemen. LOL (that was great!).

Just watched the trailer. So the older version of Hillary Duff is now Kim Cattrall? That's actually not a bad choice.
I never watched a single episode of HIMYM. But, I do really like Hillary Duff and she was great in Younger, a really underrated show that no one watched her.

Eh, I'd probably watch it if it were on any other service but Hulu (since I only have w/ads)

Disappointing, but not surprising based on that trailer
Kids, This Is the Story of Why ‘How I Met Your Father’ Is Just Not Funny. At All.
This gender-flipped take on ‘How I Met Your Mother’ may be more inclusive, but it completely misses what made the original sitcom such a blast in the first place

All of this is narrated by the Sophie of the year 2050. In a reversal of how HIMYM used the voice of the late Bob Saget as the future Ted Mosby, HIMYF puts Cattrall on camera early and often, while the son she is boring with her story is a disembodied voice on the other end of a call. “This story is about the journey, not the destination,” this older Sophie warns her son at one point. “I’m gonna get with a whole bunch of dudes before I wind up with Dad.”

Ted is relaying the happenings of each episode to his kids - so they get to learn that dad banged a lot of chicks, and so did Barney and also that Aunt Robin got around too.

Oh I know. I'm just saying it's weirder to actually get out in front of it like this, especially with this series, unlike the original, actually showing the mother talking in the "present" like all the time.

Episode 1 and 2 reaction:
Watched both premiere episodes. I liked it, but definitely has its flaws.
Jesse (main guy) and Charlie (British guy) are clearly modeled after Ted and Barney. Charlie is a bit annoying though. Tone it down.
It’s hard to hate on Hilary Duff, so I like her character.
Valentina was funny and had some good one-liners. Nice workout outfit! Crushin’ dick
Ellen was annoying. I’m Asian and was embarrassed for that character. Very disappointing. This character felt like she was shoehorned into the show at the last minute. Maybe if Awkwafina did this role, it could work. But this other actress can’t pull it off.
I was already familiar with the actor who plays Sid. He was from God Friended Me. Miss that show. Good sidekick character.
The HIMYM reference:
I don’t like the bar setting. Getting tired of sitcoms and bars. At least make it a unique bar. A lot of new hotspots are popping up in my city - karaoke bars, arcade bars, bowling / billiards / activity bars. Should have added a unique theme to the bar.
I know sitcoms start slow, so I’m hoping it gets better.

Re: How I Met Your Father (Hulu) - S: Hilary Duff - premieres 1/18/22
I still plan to watch, despite having not watched the last few seasons of HIMYM. I also am a Hilary Duff fan and that is the reason why I am giving this a real shot, but for being a HD fan I never bothered with Younger, and although she has not been in a ton of films I also do not seek them out (but I have seen most if not all of her Disney stuff). However, this shows stars HD and Francia Raisa so I am there. Even if I end up agreeing with many of the shows critics that it sucks; I suspect it will be a pretty easy to watch background show and not a show to rage about.
