I was literally walking around my living room while this segment was on in the background and when she said "tech developed in Germany 80 years ago" I literally stopped and said, umm, is she talking about Nazis? I felt vindicated when Oliver came back to that.

Last night's Main Story was not at all funny, but it was interesting and a problem that I was totally unaware of. Good reporting here.

Conversely, my real estate agent was concerned that my place didn't have popcorn ceilings, because as she said "the seller never pays to remove them, they always pass on the cost to the new buyer....I'm worried they may be hiding something"

The show is coming back July 25, but in the meantime they've been posting some web exclusive videos.

I'm partial to the duck with a gun.

BTW : I assume this is the thing Marge Gunderson's husband was working on at the end of Fargo? I had always thought he wanted to paint a postage stamp. Never knew about this contest.

I went to the Masterpiece Gallery Tour at the Judy Garland Museum over the weekend and it was a lot of fun!

That Wendy Williams painting is much larger than you think it is. The museum is attached to a children's museum and Last Week Tonight gave them permission to give it a cover up and you can see what that looks like in my photos. It sort of looks like an animation cell cut out and placed under the glass between it and the painting. You can hear them talk about it in this local news story video below. The cardboard cutout of John Oliver is a terrible, terrible photo. The sweat beads glistening in the middle of his forehead are quite clear. I guarantee you this will come up as part of a bit when they revisit this on the show. I don't have HBO, by the way, just YouTube, so you'll have to let me know if he returns to all of this on the show only but not YouTube clips.

By the way, the Judy Garland Museum was surprisingly awesome. They restored her childhood home and you can walk all around inside it. I've included a picture of the original carriage used for The Wizard of Oz that was drawn by a horse of a different color. It's constantly rotating on a mirrored turntable (you can see it in action in the local news story below) right next to one of Judy's test dresses from the movie, a spear prop from the Witch's palace guard, and a pedestal that used to have one of the original pairs of ruby slippers that got stolen a few years ago. It was a great afternoon, would recommend!

Here's a local news story video right before the tour opened:

When I checked the auction site right after watching the episode on the west coast, Duck Hunting Hunters (my fave) and Duck with a Pearl Earring were each already over $11,000. The Duck Hunt one is now at $20,000

I will show your pictures to my John Oliver - obsessed son (for reference we had to stop Ted Lasso half way done into the super-sized episode so he could watch Last Week Tonight on Sunday night rather than having to wait until Monday). He's going to be jealous of you!

I love the PG alterations to the rat painting. What does the card used to cover the lotion say? "I ..." ?

BTW, do you know the story behind the acquisitions of those paintings? I know the rat erotica saga all played out in segments not included on Youtube. Here's a story breaking down that one:

It says "I Judy." of course.

Yeah, I'd heard or seen all the stories on the art, just sooooo bizarre.

It's also like one of those comedy news pieces where the narrator says something and then the person interviewed says almost the exact same thing verbatim. Several times. Except it's for real.

was that a live studio audience, a laugh track or a combo? I found it pretty distracting after so long in the void.

It's a live studio audience, John Oliver mentioned it at the beginning of the 9/12 episode on Lukashenko.

Yeah, I have to say I think I prefer John Oliver talking at me for a half hour without disruptive laughter.
