I still like this show and will continue to watch it, but the last couple of episodes haven't been as funny as the first 2.

I watched, but I don't really have anything to say. There are still some decent character pieces, particularly with Brick, but this show is just so by the numbers. Which can be fine -- I enjoy Two and a Half Men and How I Met Your Mother, neither of which are subverting the genre in any way, but somehow, when I watch the Middle, I feel like I'm watching every episode of every family-oriented sitcom ever and I just think "Haven't I seen this a hundred times already?"

As always the young kid Brick is awesome, the other kids are great too. Last nights episode was so-so. I still really like this show. I think its a great show when it focuses on the kids especially Brick. When it focuses on Patricia Heaton its not that great then.

I loved seeing Heaton pushed into the chairs at the car lot.

I watched it, but it seems to be getting stale. I don't really care about any of the characters.

It's good, not great, but definitely deserves to be in the lineup. I like it and watch it.

This was one of the funnier episodes in the last couple of weeks, but the mother just went over the top the last 5 minutes.

That is what most of the people here are saying, especially comparing the 2 young boys.

Re: The Middle -- "The Scratch" -- 11/18/09

Great show. Familiar ground for me.

When my younger daughter was just about one, my wife was away for weeks at a time training or going across state to various work sites. I was left alone with our two daughters (the other was 4 or 5).

The baby had a habit of getting her fat, little leg stuck between the slats of her crib. Well, one night, she did this and fell asleep. When i went in there hours later, she had quite the mark on each side of her upper-thigh near her waist. She was fine, not sore to the touch, so I dressed her and took her to day care.

Few hours later, I'm in my office, plodding along (probably on DVD Talk, actually) when my phone rings. It's the wife. "What is going on!?"

So she tells me this story of how she gets called and threatened with police/DCPS action because there's an obvious "belt mark" on our child. Of course, she's out of town and I hadn't had the chance to tell her what had happened. I relayed the story, she called the day care back and made them ask our 5 year-old what had happened. Luckily she was able to corroborate my story and, on second look, they agreed that it could have been caused by what I described.

I understand why they'd be so protective, but sometimes I think people jump to the worst possible conclusion too quickly and, as alluded to in the show, once shit escalates, there's really no clearing your name. It's like that story of the girl breaking down in tears because her mother drinks and drives every morning after being told the dangers of drinking and driving. Never occurred to the administration to qualify what "drinking" means and that coffee isn't applicable

Needless to say, I checked on her more frequently during the night until we could get her out of the crib and into a toddler bed.

Just got to watch this episode (leaked online somehow), and thought it was pretty good. Not that many moments that had me laughin that much, but it was still a solid episode. The Chris Kattan part towards the end did have me laughing though.

When Brick was doing his football dance, he reminded me so much of the dancing dwarf from Twin Peaks. His moves seemed so similar.

2 episodes?!?!

(I hope this doesn't mean "burn off". I really like this show!)

DJariya 01-06-10 01:12 PM

Re: The Middle -- "The Jeans; The Neighbor" -- 01/06/10

No I don't think it's burnoff. The 8pm timeslot is available right now because of Hank's cancellation and they probably wanted to come back from the holidays with 2 new episodes to filll that 30 mins. I'm sure it will go back to something else next week. Plus the show got a full 22 episode order.

We tried this show last night for the first time, the pants one. We didn't like it all. I did like that the Janitor didn't let the son talk to him that way. You don't see strict parenting enforced shows very much.

Re: The Middle -- "The Jeans; The Neighbor" -- 01/06/10

Two good episodes.

IIRC, all 3 Wednesday shows got an additional 2 episode order this season, so it will be 24 episodes.

mrpayroll 01-07-10 03:54 PM

Re: The Middle -- "The Jeans; The Neighbor" -- 01/06/10

And these 2 episodes averaged 7.9M viewers last night which is really good.

I didn't like the Jeans episode too much (except for Mike putting Axl in his place), but the Neighbor was better. All that crust and mayhem on Brooke's face made my stomach turn.
