I don't understand why this isn't really a show about SHIELD vs HYDRA?

My favorite Coulson theory is that he was never human...or at least, the Coulson we've seen since the first Iron Man wasn't an ordinary guy, anyway. Maybe he was always an android? If he were the original Human Torch (which has a Vision tie-in) or if he were taking the Infinity Formula, that might help explain his fascination with decades long past and his general lack of emotions. Life Model Decoy seems like an obvious way to go, but maybe instead of being newly-replaced by an LMD, maybe he's been one for ages now?

Coulson being the original Human Torch would be a cool retcon I could back. It makes a ton of sense and doesn't really conflict with anything that has been shown.
