Sleepy Hollow -- "For the Triumph of Evil" -- 9/30/13

Synopsis:

Another soldier in the army of evil, the Sandman, seeps into the dreams of the residents of Sleepy Hollow. With Ichabod by her side, and her life at stake, the duo must try to defeat the Sandman and continue their fight against evil in the all-new "For the Triumph of Evil" episode of SLEEPY HOLLOW airing Monday, Sept. 30 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. Eh, I'm over this show. I think I can only handle one show dealing with mythology like this -Grimm

This show is definitely darker and has cooler effects, but I like the Grimm characters more. Decent show, but I'm bowing out.

It was the weakest episode so far but still quite entertaining. I wish they'd give Orlando Jones more to do. At first I thought he'd be another Coven member (possibly the bad one to follow the Grimm model) but so far they've done nothing at all with him. He's just there.

I feel this is much more interesting than Grimm. I am really liking this show.

I think I am out. This is not a terrible show, but I am not really interested in the monster of the week storylines. Not really that curious about the overall arc either. There is just too many other shows to watch now.

I decided to bail after watching last week's episode. I liked the pilot, didn't really care for last week's episode and feel vindicated with my decision after seeing the comments above regarding last night's episode.

Just too many other quality shows to watch and I'm just not terribly interested in these characters or mythology.

Re: Sleepy Hollow -- "For the Triumph of Evil" -- 9/30/13

I'm sticking with it since it's a short run show. I bowed out of Grimm because I was a season behind and slogging through those 20+ episodes began to seem like a chore. I think these genre shows are better served as 10-15 episodes seasons.

I just want to know when they're going to take Ichabod shopping for some new clothes as he must really reek by now what with being buried in that outfit for 200+ years.

Nicole Beharie is really short. i wonder if they are doing some intentional forced perspective like on the Hobbit.

i am sticking with it, 13 episodes even in a crowded season is manageable for me. It isn't great television, but i don't find it intolerable. i guess black midgets with big jugs in the hand are worth two in the bush.

Sorry to hear about problems at home. Moving to Otter.....

Anyway, I'm still in for now. I wasn't happy with the rather quick (and easy) end to The Sandman. Also when Abbie was put to sleep, she had her shirt off but in the "dream world" her shirt was back on. Disappointing

And I want to see the Headless Horseman again.

Did they ever explain what they did to his head? In the pilot, he was trying to get his head back and they said the world would end if he got it back. They were only saved when the sun came up.

...So what did they do with the head? Wouldn't the Headless Horseman come back every night looking for it?

I'm out for this season. I'll see how Fox re-tools the series in its second season.

DVD Talkers get a whiff of a procedural, and they all bail out.

This show reminds me of a supernatural/horror version of the National Treasure movies. Silly and lightweight, but fun.

Now 13 episodes is too much for their patience? Imagine if this was a 22-24 episode show. No one would have continued past episode 1. I guess the real reason is there is just too many hours of shows to watch this Fall and not enough time or DVR space.

Once Sleepy Hollow is declared a hit and is renewed for another season, you know someone is going to comment later:

"I bailed after episode 3, but if it got better, I'll catch up on BD or on Netflix."

This kind of reminds me of the lukewarm reception Grimm got 2 years ago. Grimm was a full fledged police procedural with monsters of the week and a light mythology and then people complained here that it was boring and dropped it. Season 2 then developed a full fledged serialized mythology and some started getting interested again.

Re: Sleepy Hollow -- "For the Triumph of Evil" -- 9/30/13

I rarely if ever watch network tv and I am really enjoying it.

Great chemistry between the leads and fast paced enough that it doesn't get boring.

Creators said they are going to get into the Headless Horseman's backstory.

Since it is a 13 ep season, I am all in.

For me it's not so much about patience but about time. I simply don't have the kind of time I used to for watching TV, so I have to prioritize. And that means cutting bail on anything that isn't great.

I'm still enjoying it so I'm in for the full season. It's fun, the chemistry between the characters is cool, the monster of the week and the overall arc are interesting enough though they really should give Orlando Jones more to do but it's only the third episode so there's time.

I'm sticking with it. It's entertaining enough that I will likely continue with however many seasons it has.

+1

I'd probably stick with this in the summer, because it's not a bad show. In fact, when it premiered early, it quickly went on my "to keep" list. But then all the other shows started back up again and it is just too much to watch. Got to make cuts somewhere.

Re: Sleepy Hollow -- "For the Triumph of Evil" -- 9/30/13

This can still go either way for me. So far I'm enjoying the characters a lot but I don't care about the mythology. As long as I continue to enjoy the leads I don't care too much that I don't care about the mythology, so I'll stick around for a bit longer and see how things go.

I got a strong early Buffy vibe this week with the monster of the week and Abbie and Ichabod researching in their library.

Precisely. There's already a glut of police procedurals, with a straight-laced cop (but with a mysterious past) and an eccentric new partner. Once Sleepy Hollow revealed its stripes in the second episode that it's just another procedural, I tuned right out. It became the first show of the new season to get deleted from my DVR, even before Dads (which is on life support, hanging on solely due to the impossible hotness of Brenda Song).
