Back In The Game (ABC) - Season 1 Thread - Starring James Caan

Terry Gannon Jr. (Maggie Lawson) was an All Star softball player until life threw her a couple curve balls: a baby, a lost college scholarship and a loser for a husband. After striking out on her own, Terry and her son Danny (Griffin Gluck) move in with her estranged father, Terry Sr. aka "The Cannon" (James Caan). The Cannon is an opinionated, beer-guzzling, ex-athlete who never quite made the cut as a single father or professional baseball player. As hard as Terry tries to keep Danny away from the sports-driven lifestyle of her youth, Danny wants to play Little League. His stunning lack of baseball skills (he doesn't even know which hand the mitt goes on) makes him the laughing stock of the baseball field and his grandfather's living room. When Danny and a group of other athletically-challenged hopefuls fail to make the team, Danny's disappointment forces Terry to face her past. So when a wealthy neighbor volunteers to finance a team for the rejected kids, Terry reluctantly offers to coach the team of misfits. |

I'm going to check out this one. I like Jimmy Caan and I remember Maggie Lawson from some of the Psych episodes I saw.
It's going to be interesting seeing Caan in a 30 minute comedy. |

It wasn't terrible. Kind of like How To Live With Your Parents For The Rest of Your Life without the charm of Sarah Chalke. The kid lives with the politically incorrect parent but this time with baseball

I liked it. It was uneven, but that's typical with sitcoms.

James Caan gave off a bit of a Walter Mathau vibe here, though mixed with a fair amount of Sonny Corleone.
While it's pretty much impossible to do a Bad News Bears like the original, this wasn't a half-bad attempt. |

I liked it. I love Maggie Lawson on Psych, and Caan was pretty funny. I'll keep watching for now.

Has potential to hit or crash and burn quickly. Don't rely on fart jokes people, that's lazy writing.

I liked Maggie Lawson on Psych, but what's happening there? I never followed that closely. Is that show still on or is it done? IS she coming back if it is?

Psych got renewed for a 10 episode season. Lawson will double dip.
Regarding Back in the Game..I liked it, although I thought it sounded like something I wouldn't like. Checked it out due to Caan and Lawson. |

I hope it's not true as well. Psych is of of my favorite shows.
I'll keep tuning into this one for Lawson and Caan. Although, the pilot wasn't very funny. |

"Stay In or Bail Out" - Terry becomes determined to find a job and finally get out from under her father's roof. The Cannon teaches the Angles to overcome their fear of getting hit by the ball by taking them to a prison where the warden uses some unconventional techniques to get them to stay in the batter's box. Meanwhile, the Cannon is secretive about an unused bedroom and bathroom in the house, on "Back in the Game," WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 2 (8:30-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. |

Just watched the Pilot. Not bad. Has some charm to it. Kind of has a Bad News Bears vibe to it with the baseball back drop & misfits.
Maggie Lawson is hot. Nice legs and really pretty hair. I did like Terry's interactions with The Cannon. I like to see more single cam sitcoms like this. |

They had a few cheap jokes but I did like the: "When I got my first period you told me to walk it off". joke.

Really liking this. The stuff with the kids and the prisoners was hilarious.
After watching the Pilot, I was wondering if they would add another character. I guess ABC thought the same and brought in the friend. She didn't really add anything this episode, maybe they'll incorporate her better as the show goes on. |

I enjoyed this second episode, too. I watched at first for Maggie Lawson, but James Caan is providing the most entertainment. |

This was a step up from the pilot. The friend I find annoying due to her phoney accent. This will be a regular watch if it keeps going in this direction.

Lenora Crichlow, who plays the friend, is British, so she is not doing a phony accent. She sounds just like she sounded in four seasons of Being Human.
